Happy Diabetes Anniversary to me!

Okay, so technically Oct. 7th is my 35th anniversary. I’m wondering what others do to celebrate their diaversary, if you do celebrate. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have made it this far without any serious problems (minus the three laser surgeries I’ve had for retinopathy). My rebellious teen years consisted of drinking regular soda and not “shooting up” for it.

I just moved so I don’t really know a lot of people, but I’m thinking of going to this mom and pop Italian restaurant down the street from my new apartment. I have Celiac Disease as well and they made gluten-free fettuccine for me, from scratch. Heaven.

Of course, there’s always buying a new pair of shoes since diabetics must take extreme care of their feet, right?

Shoes.

Definitely shoes.

Hi Brandie. Diabetes shoes are good–they have lots of room in the toe box. But to celebrate? I’m coming up on my 22nd anniversary, and it will definitely include brownies. Congratulations, and Happy Diabetes Anniversary to you!

No, eating Italian, shoes are a necessity not a celebration! Have a great day.
PS go get the shoes anyway, you really need a new pair!

I respectfully disagree: Shoes ARE a celebration!

Funny, I’d never encountered this Diaversity thing until hanging out here and I gotta say it had me scratching my head. You wanna celebrate that? Took me a while to grok that we’re celebrating surviving with it that long, not getting it in the first place. I’m coming up on 33 years in December–I don’t remember the exact date but I was in college and I know it was just before or during Christmas break. Maybe I’ll buy myself a special present. Bottle of Balvenie might be nice!

30 years?!?! WOW! What an accomplishment! Congratulations and happy diaversary to you!

I say treat yourself too both and wear your new shoes while going to the Italian restaurant! :stuck_out_tongue:

Diabetes stinks and you’ve made it so far! It is a special occasion, so go big!

I got bright pink tinsel in my hair. I celebrated and praised God that I lived and didn’t die throughout the whole DKA coma thing. Yes, I am 60 years old…but YES I am 60.
