I and my insurance agent have been trying in vain to find hazard insurance for my son’s pump. It’s covered under the personal property portion of our homeowner’s insurance (less a $1,000 deductible/police report for theft or 1% of our home value for fire, etc.), but I can’t find a way to cover it if it ends up at the bottom of a lake or damaged by teenage boyhood.
Do any of you have your pump insured for loss or damage? If so, can you please provide specifics about what’s covered and through whom and the approximate cost?
Thanks!
My renter’s insurance covers my property no matter where it’s at (actually at the house, or even with me while I’m traveling out and about). So I use it (or would use it if I needed it) for things like my insulin pump, my CGM, my bike or race wheels if they were wrecked at a race, my laptop, etc.
Not sure if my policy is written differently than a homeowner’s policy would be…
My insurance is through Farmer’s insurance and I pay approx. $325 a year for something like $20k of coverage w/ a $250 deductible.
and since I went to school at OU and now teach for them, I have to say it: BOOMER SOONER! …I just noticed your avatar
Check the definition of “loss” in your policy. There are some insurers that define “loss” broadly enough to cover it falling off in the lake, etc. I have Chubb, and the definition in my policy is very broad – includes if something is just permanently lost/misplaced. Your agent should be able to find you the broadest definition. You might also be able to schedule the pump for broader coverage for a couple of dollars per year.
