Hello! I am New to TuDiabetes. I just happen to stumble on the site by chance and so far I like what I see. I have a 7 yr old T1D diagnosed in 2008 at the age of 3 1/2. Started on the MM pump in 2009 and switched to the Omni Pod a few months ago. Still struggling with keeping her blood glucose numbers steady despite the fact that we weigh and meausre all of her food. Because of all the highs and lows we have decided to use the Dexcom CGM to see if we can get better control. Looking for support and tips and tricks for better control...if that's possible.
Welcome Piki101!! You've made a wise decision to reach out to others like your daughter. There's so much to learn about this disease but one thing you have to keep in mind, it's unpredictable. By that I mean so many things affect us, such as stress, climate things your wouldn't normally think about. Foods you feed her and knowing where they are on the Glycemic Index also affects the outcomes of blood sugars...it's a continuous education.
Welcome to TuD Piki, I'm very glad you have stumbled on to the site, I did the same thing about 8 months ago. Stumbled here and it is the best thing I could have done for myself. I cannot imagine the stress of having a T1D child. There are a lot of groups here and moms and dads of T1 kids who share what has worked for them and what has not. Nice thing is you can ask literally any question and someone has experience or an answer or can direct you to the place to find an answer. I was diagnosed T1 at the age of 14 in 1975 and have seen a lot of changes over the years. I hope you will ask questions, make friends and hopefully learn something and maybe teach something about life with a T1 child. We are all here to help each other and we all keep learning. Welcome to tu, this is a great site for support and information, people that walk the walk day after day have so much insight. my son was diag at 10, he is now 14. i sense that control is alot harder for little ones and gets a bit easier with time. jacob has his ups and downs but usually i can track down why things are out of whack. he has been using the omnipod for about 3 years and does well. of course there are issues but i guess that is the trade off to no shots. it drives me nuts when people think that an insulin pump is an artificial pancreas put it on and you are all set, i work with doctors and nurses and they thought this! anyways we all get what you are going through and are here for you, best wishes to your and your daughter! amy
