Help calculating percentages please!

I’m not very good at math, can someone help? If I want to eat 1500 calories a day, and I want to eat 75 to 100 grams of carbs, what percent of the 1500 calories is that???

Carbs have 4 calories per gram.
75 grams * 4 cal/gram = 300 calories, or 20% of 1500 calories.
100 g carb * 4 cal/gram = 400 calories, 4/15 or 26.7% of 1500 calories.
Both of these are very low amounts of carbohydrate for that calorie level…

Thanks so much for the calculation! I have a program called Nutribase where I can enter my weight every day, can also keep a food log, track my blood sugar numbers, make meal plans, etc. It also tracks what percent of your intake each day was Carbs-Protein-Fat, and the default for Carbs is 60%. I know I don’t want anything near that high. I know the 75 to 100 g carb per day is very low for 1500 calories, but most days I don’t actually eat that amount of calories either.

the Zone diet, which I consider a bit lower-carb than ideal, is 30-40-30 protein-carb-fat. It’s most useful for ultra-low calorie diets where one has trouble finding enough protein to sustain life functions. Still, I’d probably aim for more like 25-50-25… but your mileage may vary.

Someone on another diabetes board led me to this website where you can input your food and will calculate the percentage of carbs, fat and protein for every meal. It is free

Jeannie, thanks for the web site, I’ve used Fit Day before. However, I have a software called Nutribase that I use for all my calculations, and I can put what I want my goal to be for each nutrient, then when I put my Intake, it alerts me if I’ve gone over on any of them. It also has an entry to track my blood sugar, which I really like.
