Holy Cr*p! Dexcom G5 and G6 xmitters on backorder

It’s arriving today. I put in the order last week, and it shipped out last Friday.

Not sure if it’s regional. All I know is that the Dexcom rep didn’t mention a backorder when I talked to them last Wednesday.

I’m glad the backlog is apparently resolved. At least for now.

That’s a great resource, @anthonygrover, thanks. I’m going to add the link to his separate post about how to restart the G5 (and G6) transmitter when it hits the end of its artificial shutdown clock:

Warning: it’s pretty geeky. If you know about using a code repository and that kind of stuff, no big deal, but for others it may be a bit off-putting. You also have to get a Mac Developer account, which might be a snag–I know I ran into weird things like not being able to set up 2-factor authentication on my regular Mac account when I had one, and I had to get rid of it (wasn’t really using it anyway).

I guess I’d say the advantage of the transmitter reset app is that that’s all it does; when you’re done, you just go ahead as before. Whereas xDrip totally replaces the native Dexcom app and can’t run concurrently with it. I personally think it’s a perfectly good interface, maybe even better in some ways. But that’s the key difference between these two approaches.

I’m already inside the “Your transmitter will die in two weeks!” alert, so I may give the Reset App a try–have to see if I want to go through all that when the time comes.

You might want to be super-specific on that one. True, you can’t run xdrip and Dexcom ON THE SAME DEVICE, but you can run xdrip on a smartdevice while simultaneously running Dexcom on a Dexcom receiver. I just wanted to mention that lest some folks might get confused.

Fair point, but my only reason for using xDrip is to extend transmitter life past the artificial cut-off date, and once that has passed the receiver can’t connect anyway. Right? XDrip doesn’t change anything in the transmitter itself, it just bypasses the bit that says “You can’t talk to me because I’m pretending to be dead!” and the receiver can’t do that.

Getting to be a year since the last time I used it so I’m kinda hazy on it, but I’m pretty sure…

I wish I had a mac. That’s the only missing piece for me.

I can’t use xDrip either because I have an iPhone! Gah! I’m missing all the important pieces.

Me too–there has been an IOS version since a bit over a year ago.

Oh cool!!! Thanks!!

I like when I restart a sensor, that xdrip keeps on providing accurate data during the 2 hour warm up period that the receiver requires for a restart. That feature, and the more accurate algorithm, and “talking glucose” are my 3 favorite aspects of xDrip+

Ok so what is this xDrip that everyone is referring to? Have never heard of it.

Short version is that it’s an open-source replacement for the Dexcom smartphone app created by an independent developer named Johan Degraeve. Has many of the same features and some of its own. I think the main thing that drives people through the slightly geeky process of installing it on their phones is the fact that it ignores the programmed-in shutdown period of the G5/G6 transmitter, so you can get a lot more time out of it. And as @Dave44 notes, it keeps giving data during the warm up period which is also really nice.

xDrip+ shames Dexcom by providing so many more features AND more accurate results to boot. Google xDrip+, give it a try, and enjoy! Heck, the developer even incorporated a nice feature just a couple days after I requested it (variable time intervals for spoken glucose readings instead of the prior 5-minute-only spoken ones)

Johan’s a great guy–very helpful and responsive with me when I was having problems.

Xdrip+ for android and Spike for IOS are the apps that enable you to turn the Freestyle Libre sensor into full on CGM. I am based in the UK and have my above mentioned website bgonmywatch.com to guide people through the very basic steps of getiing CGM on to their smartphones and watches including a guide to costs for self funders.

My transmitter, G5, died a week early last Monday. I had two transmitter, with Oct and Nov expiration date. Both of them died within a couple of minutes. Was told that a new transmitter would be overnighted, meaning Wednesday. Now they tell me that they are back ordered. Sigh!

They are selling like crazy in Europe at the moment, and are expanding further. It can be seen on their share price move yesterday.

My daughter’s G6 is in transit. Last tracking had it 100 miles away so it won’t be long now!

Mila, Something Drastic is going on @ Dexcom. We have been openly ‘lied’ to at least 4 times in the last 3 days. I can not express my Complete Dismay at what my wife & I have been ‘told’ & what has actually transpired! It’s like Dexcom has ceased to have ANY ‘direction’ at all & no one is truthful… I cannot believe the way we have been treated. Unbelievable! I’m just Devastated… I have a G5 system connected with my T-slim & a DEAD transmitter EVEN THOUGH We ordered a new transmitter on Aug 3rd… For me, at 66yrs old, suffering from a stroke & recent Cancer surgery & RELYING on that CGM to alert me of frequent ‘overnight-hypoglycemic’ events, I am Devastated & Lost!!! NEVER expected this from a company with their reputation… I don’t know where too turn for help.
