Hot Yoga - Day 2

So I started bikram yoga yesterday. I was worried about going low so I went in high at 15 and came out still high at 14. This was with no humalog for at all that day. I had breakfast (2 slices toast, 2 fried eggs) and 16 units of lantus about 2 1/2 hours earlier (I split the dose). So i had an idea of how my body does in that environment with no insulin to use.

Today, I went to yoga in the evening. At 3:30 I was super high at 19 so I took 6 units of humalog. this brought me down to 15 at 6:30. I figured I would be fine for my class at 7:45. I was in the room waiting for the class to start at 7:30 and checked again. 11. Checked at 8:30, 7.2 This would be great if it would stop dropping soon, but I know it won’t so I eat a granola bar. 9pm and it’s at 5. I would love to keep going in the class since technically my blood sugar is perfect, but I was out of sugar and I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to stop dropping.

i think part of the problem is the panic I feel when I’m low and have to eat. The sweating and shaking trigger the panic like pavlov’s dogs and being in the hot room sweating and shaking it’s hard to separate that in my head.

Tomorrow I think I’ll try going first thing when I wake up. That way my blood sugar should be around the 6-9 range and I can eat breakfast after the class.

Samantha-

Hello! I had the same issue. I use an insulin pump. I am able to increase my dosage for a certain peroid of time. Last week after I finished my aerobic class I was at 215. This week I ended up being 90. I know you’ll find your groove and once you get in it you’ll be fine
