How long do you keep Afrezza unrefrigerated?

What is the practical limit for keeping Afrezza at room temperature? Have you noticed any decrease in effectiveness as cartridges age outside of the refrigerator?

I’ve pondered this quite a bit… The instructions say it’s fine for 10 days if unopened or 3 days if opened…

I think the shelf life causes me more concern after they’re opened because then they exposed to humidity fluctuations as well as just temperature, and realize, we are talking about a powder here that needs to be capable of dispersing into the air-- so humidity is likely more of a concern than temperature in my thinking.

I know the Matt in Australia left packets of afrezza in a greenhouse with elevated temperature for a prolonged length of time (unopened) I think for a month or more and then noted (and videotaped his experiment) which he felt showed that it was still 100% effective.

I wouldn’t hesitate a bit to go for 2 weeks or more with no refrigeration with unopened packets if I wasn’t in extreme temperatures…

Longest I went in normal temps was about 10 days. Didn’t seem to impact the effectiveness at all.

I had a 3-pack in my purse with 2 used up when I got a terrible headcold. I didn’t used the last 1 for over a week and it worked fine when I was better enough to use it.

he states "

The blister pack spent 161 days without refrigeration before this test. It was first put in the heated hothouse on August 22nd, and then taken out on December 5th (105 days). After that, it spent 56 days in the hottest room in my house during a typically hot Australian summer. Melbourne had 20 days above 90° F (32.2° C), and 5 days above 100° F (37.8° C) during the test period.

but he wrapped them real good - so only temperature was the adverse factor. As you said , humidity would be bigger concern - only if you open the blister packs

I wonder how effective is the cartridge seal, which is broken when you insert and lock the cartridge into the whistle?

Clearly less than 100% effective if the cartridges aren’t advertised to last as long as once the outer packaging is opened… One would think

Though how much of that is reality and how much is nonsensical FDA labeling requirements is anyone’s guess…

That’s the real question, isn’t it? I remember when insulin had to be kept refrigerated even after the vial was opened. There’s so much about Afrezza that is poorly understood, I wonder also about the effectiveness of the packaging.

It’s easy stuff to overthink, that’s for sure…
