I have decided to go on an insulin pump and my Endo supports me I was wondering after deciding what pump to get how long did it take to get your pump.
Usually two to three weeks. Then you have to schedule the training. I got my pump in Oct 09 and was on it about a week and a half later.
I went for some pump training at my Doctors office and after deciding which pump my Doctor ordered it on a Tuesday and Medtronic called me on Wednesday and I received it the fallowing Monday. I carried my pump, 2 reservoirs and 2 infusion sets to my Doctors office the next day and started pumping insulin about 3pm. My doctor kept track of my food and BG for about 3 mouths before ordering my pump so all of that stuff was already behind me.
For mine, I had to log BG for a month and then it was a couple of weeks after that.
Thanks I cant wait I have started to log my numbers for a moth and got new blood tests. I am now just trying to decide on which pump I want cause to me they are all the same just look different.
Steven,if you are anything like me I was having major lows where I needed someone to come to my aid.Injections just weren't working for me.I couldn't get my A1c below 8 and when I tried I was going low.The pump has been a godsend for me.My a1c since pumping in 2008 has been in the 6-7mmol range. It only took a couple of days to receive my pump it was the training and setting it up that took the longest. When I did start pumping they started me off on a saline solution just to get used to the idea of bolusing before meals and getting used to the buttons. In order to decide what pump I wanted I went online and read reviews and went to websites pertaining to pumps.I am really sensitive, so the Animas One Touch Ping was my choice as it has the lowest basal rate of.025 and I liked the idea of the screen being lit up.
It took about six weeks start to using. That included pump training, insurance approval, the doctor doing the order, etc. I also had to do logs, but they reflected wide swings in my BS, meaning it was a bit easier for me I think. Good luck, I love my medtronic pump (code named splotch). I have a modern art inspired plum cover on it.
Update: I am getting the new MM pump. It should take only a week and I should have it by next week. Doesn't take too long. Medtronic is pretty quick getting all the paperwork and insurance and doctor's approvals done in a couple of days.
A matter of weeks for me and really nothing compared to the 7 years I jabbed syringes. I have never taken this long to make a decision before or since.
