yea 375… is that even possible?
I average 15 - 17 units (my basal is 12.45u), novolog via pump. I’m 42, Type 1 for 12 years, 155 pounds - mid-distance runner. I was taking between 32-36 units and then I cut out all grain based carbs back in January - eating paleo. It had a dramatic effect on my daily totals (obviously) and my a1c.
The cool thing is that I haven’t suffered from it on the satisfaction/deprivation side. I substitute Almond Meal for wheat in a number of recipes; Almond Meal Muffins, Crackers, etc. I came across a Gluten/IBS cookbook and am amazed at the recipes. Also, I’m a big fan of Mark Sisson’s cookbook at marksdailyapple.com
I’m around 65-75 units a day, sometimes less, sometimes more. My totals are down about 30 units since January after losing 15 lbs.
TDD for my 100 pound niece has gone back down from pubertal high. She now uses about 42 to 50 units a day (during puberty usually 60 and had occasionally used as high as 70). I’m guessing you are in your honeymoon? Or perhaps those diagnosed when adult may use less (LADA). But whatever her basal demands, we cover it.
My TDD is 15-20 units per day. I am on a pump with Novolog. I have a T2 diagnosis, but they think I may be LADA, with tests still pending.
I take 10-12 u of Lantus at nite. Also take about 12 u of Humalog during the day in 3 doses. I have been T-1 for 11 years. My bolus dosage of Humalog has recently gone down from 18u during the day. My Lantus has stayed the same for the 5 years I have been using it. ( Before I was using NPH and Humalog.)
Well after 38 years and having to take a lot of steroids and not being able to keep my thyroid under control I take 32.8 units as my basal and 1 unit for every 4 grams of carb I eat for my bolus.
Ilana,
I just hit my 1 year anniversary… I went from basically the same thing as you, 12 units lantus, around 6-8 bolus…but then I got on a pump two months later and my basal went to like 2 Units/day! My TDD was like 8 units (very low)…then over time it has increased to average 22 units…i have taken 30 if i am eating a lot of carbs.
DO you have an insulin to carb ratio yet? Thats another thing that changed drastically over 1 year. At first it was 1:35!!! then it went to 1:25 and gradually to 1:10. It’s 1:10 now, almost exactly 1 year after being diagnosed…
Here is a little graph of my Total Daily Dose.
well now 500 units of humolog in a pump
yes it is very possible.its called severe insulin resistance
Thanks Lauren! It drives me crazy how much things change over time. As soon as I think I figured it out, it changes again. It’s so frustrating. I just got a pump a few weeks ago and am still figuring out my settings. Which one did you get? Are you happy with it?
I take 2000iu a day…hasn’t helped
I am on multiple daily injections, and I take 28 units of Levemir and approx. 25 units of Novo Rapid daily.
Well, that puts my heart at ease! I weigh 146 lb. (close enough to 150) and my basal dose is 24u a day. Just what you said it should be!
Boluses are much smaller, because I’m eating reduced carb – I’m averaging 12 u a day, so my total is usually around 36u a day. On special occasions, I pig out, and go into the low 40’s, but I know that’s going to happen, and I plan for it, and go back to my regular eating pattern the next day.
And I’m SUPPOSED to be insulin-resistant, but somehow I don’t think so.
I take 11 in the am and another 11 at dinner time, its Novilin N
I take about 20-24 units of rapid (Novorapid) insuline per day ( 7 or 8 per meal, depending on carbs) and 9 units of the slow insuline (Insulatard)
I’f i’m having trouble with my A1c I usually decide for myself which level should be raised ( my doc doesn’t like that, but my A1c levels prove me right)
I’m a type 1,5/LADA for about a year and a half now.
I’m on the pump, basal is right at 28 units/day. I bolus with 1 unit for every 5 grams of carbs I eat, so that can vary a lot. I average 40-60 grams of carbs per meal.
I take 21 units of lantus if I don’t work out. I take 20 or 19 if I do. If I lose weight, I take 18 or 19 and then 16 or 17 when working out. If I were to gain weight I’d add units. I know someone who is my height and weighs 20 more pounds than me and takes about 35 units.
I take 12-14 units basal, and 0-3 units per meal…my TDD is 14-17. I’m on the omnipod pump and Invankova and I eat low carb (Bernstein) and workout every day.
AM basal: 16 units
PM basal: 16 units
bolus: variable
