How to welcome new members to our community

Welcoming new members has always been a part of how our community works, and now that we’re starting to settle into the new website we’re ready to begin doing it again! The system will be different from what we did before, but it’s still an important part of who we are :smile:

Here’s how we’re going to welcome newbies, at least unless/until we come up with a more elegant plan:

  • I have created a topic called [Welcome our new members!][1] in the Community section of the forum.
  • Every day or two either I or one of our Admin volunteers will add the names of recent additions to our community within the thread there, so you can see who they are.
  • You can either chime into that same thread to welcome folks (remember to put the “@” before their username, so they’ll get a notification!), or go directly to each new member’s profile and write them a private message.

LOL! It’s nice to be part of a group that needs “special attention” … as in, “Yeah, I’m talkin’ to you! Be nice for once, and say hi to our new members!!”

And I know that many of us used to put comments on new members profiles, so hopefully this can serve a similar purpose. I would also encourage everyone to msg new members with a private message welcoming them individually.
