Hi N.E. Diabetics!
I live in Boston, where some of the best Diabetes treatment centers worldwide are located, and I may have found a not-great one. I won’t share names, that’s mean, but I came from a GREAT endocrinologist at Children’s hospital ( I got too old ), and now I am “less than thrilled” about my new one. Anyone see anyone AWESOME who might be taking new patients? I’m a Type 1 on pump and CGM therapy.Thank you!
I’m at Joslin and love mine! She listens to me and she knows how much of a perfectionist I am, so she is good at reminding me that sometimes, good enough is good enough with this disease. I also like that I can see an RN or a NP between appointments pretty quickly. Message me if you want her name. I can’t tell you about the others at Joslin, but based on the rest of the team players I’ve met, I’d think that most of the doctors are pretty good.
I used to go to the Joslin. Many years ago my doc was Allison GOldfine. THen after a few years of not travelling to Boston I returned and saw another doc , who I will not name. I really liked Dr. Goldfine. I do not know if she is taking new pts. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. Personally after having a bad experience witht he new doc I no lomger go to Joslin. I have a wonderful pc here in NH and she and I muddle through together. i think it is infinitely important to find a doc, endo or not, that you are comfortable with. Good luck!
I just switched to an adult endo from peds at Joslin. I’ve only had one appointment with the endo and one with the nurse. I liked the endo and did not like the nurse. When I had to switch I got recommendations from my doctor, of course the doctors my doctor recommended were not accepting new patients so when I called to make an appointment I chatted with the person that scheduled the appointments and took her recommendation.
My endocrinologist is a wonderful woman and she is out of Newton -Wellesley Hospital.
Dr. Jeanne Steppel-Reznik and I believe is she in fact taking new patients.
Oh, that’s who I was recommended to see! She is not taking new patients, at least she wasn’t in the fall. We’ll see if I can get in with her next year or something/ Thanks for the advice!
If you dont love your endo, or see on the same page, or feel like your not really involved in your care. CHANGE… they are there to work with you and you should feel comfortable and a little bit important… I left the Joslin originally since I didnt get a good connection with my endo, among having insurance issues at the time. Found a great endo, had some limitations but had quite a good few years with him, and he wants me on a pump so i ended up back at the Joslin… Running into the “not quite right” fit with some of my providers but seemed to click with the Endo there, unlike the first time.
Its like trying shoes, if it dont feel right, you shouldnt be wearing/relying on that person… Time to try again!
There are a few things you can do:
shop around
settle for your predictament
dictate your care
The competition for a known, quality endo is tough but I have found that it is important for me to take control of my care. This can often mean confronting a provider about their manner and/or their treatment. Some really have the ability and desire to care effectively but have not used anyn social skills for most of med school and beyond. You know, geeks in smocks. IF you can be patient with a candidate give it a try and always let them know how you feel about them. Write a letter if you ahve thoughts afterwards. Take a friend for support if you want. You might want to see other female Drs at Joslin or nearby.
I’ve been a Diabetic for about 14 years now, I saw a great Dr. @ Joslin for about 8 years, until i just could not fit trips into the city into my life anymore. let me know and i can give you her name, she was very caring and an excellent source of info. unfortuneately down on the RI border there are not many Endo’s around, I fired my an endo about a year ago, and my new Dr is ok… a little to busy for my tastes (i guess they all are) and no Email contact… (I could mail my Joslin DR 8 years ago!) Anyway good luck w/ your search!
i live in back bay, and i go down to the cape to see Dr Mary Crowell, she is great, she knows her stuff and she really cares. she is good at connecting with people. it is well worth the trip. i have been seeing her for something like ten years now, before that i bounced around a lot because i didn’t like any of them… i always thought the joslin was a touch too myopic
I may be a bit late to reply to this, but I just found this site. I have an awesome endocrine doctor. Her name is Margo Hudson. She’s at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. I don’t know if she’s excepting patients, but if she is, you’ll never look back.
I go to howling and may switch design if they don’t get on. Board with me wanting to switch tl the pump…vur I’m all ears for suggestions as well
I can’t help you, but I would like to tell you about me. I live in Connecticut. I was dx’d on Julty 6, 1958 at the age of 3. I went to Joslin in Boston 10-1-1959 OMG that is my wedding date in 1976. I met Doc EPJ then and his side kick Doc Priscilla White. I just went back for the 50 year Gold medal. I remember it like it was all yesterday. Keep plugging along!!!
You will find the endo that you can talk to with confidence.
