I finally started using omnipod today!

I have been do excited about the possibility of moving away from MDI and not having to go with a pump that has tubing every since I met an omnipod rep at a diabetes fair about a month ago. Well all of the paperwork and other requirements have been completed so today was Showtime!

The rep met me in an officer at my job to do the training. Though there were many numbers involved during the programming which kinda threw me off, it was an overall enjoyable experience. I was dreading the insertion of the cannula and ironically enough, i didn’t even feel it!

My basal has been temporarily turned off until third evening sure to me having taken lantus last night at about 11 pm but bolusing at lunch was very easy and I just keep thinking what in the world was I waiting for re: switching from MDI to a pump

Sorry for all of the misplaced words. I’m on my cell phone and auto correct has gotten me again lol

I'll have mine this month Ad. It will be my first pump and I am excited but apprehensive. How long was your meeting w/the educator? I might have her (him?) just come to my work. Thought it might be an all day thing needing to be at home. The sales rep put one on my the other day when we met. It was saline but I felt the insertion. I was waiting for a big stab and it was like a finger prick on my arm! I wore it all weekend and pulled it off this morning. There was a welt and black & blue spot on my arm where it had been. Is that normal? Or maybe from the saline or sodium chloride that was in the demo. Good luck. Keep me posted so I'll know what to expect. Thanks.

sometimes I get those spots, sometimes I don't. My arms are more prone to the bruise/spots...but that was true with MDI as well. You will get the hang of what areas work best for you and which ones don't.

Also, it only took 2 hours or so to get the pdm set up and the initial pod working when I started (last January). I can't imagine it taking all day...

congrats! I'm glad it's going well so far!

The total training including explaining everything, PDM set up and starting an actual pud was 2 hrs. It probably could have been shorter but we were chit chatting and she was
training a new rep.

Were the marks from the adhesive or the actual needle?

Can’t wait to hear your story about starting on the pump!

Thanks Kate!

So happy for you! I waited 36 years before going on the pod. The tubeless thing is what sold me and like you I wondered, why did I wait so long!
I sometimes get the welt and a small bruise where the canula is inserted bit it goes away eventually.
It's like the bruising I sometimes got after a shot.
Good luck and enjoy.

Congrats and Good luck. Hope all continues to go well for you.
