I hae just a few questions for everyone----gathering information
Greetings, I am a type II diabetic, controlled by janumet (50.1000/perday) and anaryl (4mg per day), My husband is newly diagnosed as of November, 2011,. I would be a slacker is I said I was slightly miffed at the treatment or should I say NON-treatment that he has received. When I was diagnosed 10 years ago, at a different private Native clinic, I was given hours of edication, instruction, etc every year about diabetes, I had the luxury of meeting the cde every month if I wanted. In the interium, our provider has left town, and we are now in the system of a larger clinic. I am sure some of you have read about the treatment he received on his first visit to their patient edicator! BAD, VERY BAD! His doc told him he did't need to test at all, didn't need a meter or supplies, Just taje 2000 mg metformin a day for three months and then check in with him. This doc appears to know nothing about diabetes. The PA I have is a little better, or I am informing her, But I had occassion to meet another doc this week, and he knew about as much as my dh's doc,
So, my questions:
1. Who did your initial edication on diabetes?
2. Do you feel your doctor knows enough about diabetes to be helping you or do you teach hin/her?
3. Do you have a CDE in your area, an endocrinologist?
4. Have you visited with them?
5. You did your nutiriton training?
6. Whon do you turn to now for answers to questions?
I am in the process of working with our CDE nurse to develope a program for our local Medical Association, and having both hospitals require that physcians or people who work with diabetics in their hospitals attend a basic training session through their Medical meetings, I know a big point, it may never come for fruition. Bit we are trying.
We have a large Native American population and I have their blessing and help so maybe that will be a benefit to this plan. If you have any positive ideas or comments, please leave them here or PM me with them....
Also, please excuse ny horrible typing, I am still using three fingers.....and missing a lot,
