I’ve red that the “peak” in blood insulin concentration is about 12-15 minutes while the maximum “glucose-lowering peak” followed at about 30 minutes with most discernible activity gone at about 80 minutes. This of course will vary from person to person and from meal to meal in the same person.
If I were you, I’d practice on some easier meals to get a feel for what Afrezza can do. Timing your dose is another skill you’ll need to fine-tune. Some people may give an initial dose just after finishing eating followed by another dose at 30 minutes or in response to a rising BG line on a CGM.
Pizza is the holy grail of insulin dosing but incredibly hard to get right with a high calorie intake with lots of carbs and lots of fat. This meal lasts a long time producing BG uptrends 6, 8, or more hours after eating. This long digestive tail would match better with a liquid insulin of some sort. Some people even like to use the old-fashioned Regular that peaks at about 5 hours and takes 12 hours to finally exit.
I use Afrezza primarily to correct. It is a remarkable tool that way.
Good luck with your experiments. If you write stuff down, you’ll learn more quickly.
