it’s not because I ate too much sugar
I didn’t give it to myself. (Who the bleep would?)

…that it takes hard work, a sense of humor, and mind-boggling persistance.
The emotional toll of Diabetes
… that taking insulin shots is about 1/10 of 1% of the actual effort to manage diabetes well, all day, every day, with no days off.
… while insulin keeps us alive, it can also kill!

How bad I can feel when I have eaten something I should not (oh just a little won’t hurt you). The ‘little’ does usually hurt me.
I wish people knew diabetes is not always easy to manage. A lot of people are convinced that all you have to do is keep your blood sugar within a certain range. What they do not realize is just how much work this is.
I totally agree! Plus, when you are in a situation where you have to tell someone that you are high or low they act like you’ve done something wrong. Umm, no, sometimes the beetus just does it’s own thing.
… how much a person weighs does not determine the type of diabetes they have.
I wish people knew that weight had little to nothing to do with it! I can’t stand hearing (a) “but you’re so thin” or (b) “Oh, you have type 1, that must be why you’re so thin”.
That having diabetes is difficult and that if everyone was diabetic the world would be oh so very much better for us.
To effectively manage the disease how expensive that diabetes is.
I wish people knew that I am the captain of my ship called diabetes. I sail it through calm as well as stormy waters, I am at the helm 24/7 and cannot take a break. I am the captain, I seek council from those with learning and experience but I make the decisions on my ship, no one should question my authority or my decisions.
