so im thinking of doing a comic, a slice of life based around a girl.struggling with type 1 diabetes. im just wondering whay.everyone would want to see, suggestions and what not. those little quirks that most people dont know about, such as when i m really high i sometime feel as if my head is buzzing. or just things you think need to be adressed?
I think there's a lot of material there. I have all sorts of odd things I keep track of that are so sort of hypertactical that I wouldn't even bother trying to explain to a doctor. Maybe to you guys. Another big thing is the cost. Once someone was like "why does cancer get more $$$?" so I looked it up thinking "cancer is way more expensive, duh, chemo doesn't grow on trees..." and, once I had, I was floored by how much more expensive diabetes is than other diseases. Like micro to macro, diabetes covers everything...
I’ve never heard of how much it costs In General, just how much it costs for me haha. I was gonna do a chapter about how this character selectively injects the rapid insulin to make it last longer, because she can’t afford more. Any info or stories would help, or what you would like the story to ecompass, like struggling diabetic in the end she.gets herself under control
I did all sorts of crazy stuff when I was younger, running up and down the stairs to make R shot into my legs work faster, *DANGER* IV shots, pushups with arm shots. Lots of hypos, mostly the day after wild parties. I was reasonable certain I wouldn't live to be 40 so, at 46, I am pretty jolly to have "won"! ooh rah. I think the cost thing is a big deal though because while cancer and heart disease get tons of funding, the whole "cure diabetes with exercise" line of crap perpetuates a strong myth which seems to directly impair the notion of funding research to push for a cure at the same level other diseases are funded. Given the enormous impact of diabetes on health care costs, it seems like a tremendous oversight. Which isn't exactly *bif* *bang* *POW* comic material but the way the disease is managed is really pretty heavy and you could get into some neat stuff. A lot of Bill Burroughs' books about junkies really spoke to my sense of getting fried out by hypos and hypers and zooming back and forth and thinking about stuff.
