Here I am at the Northwest Seton Hospital, now my second night. I was admitted with chest pains to the heart and extreme headache pains. After waiting a couple of hours in the ER, my mother appeared with my brother and his fiance. My husband started to explain to my family what was going on.
The nurse came in, knowing that my mother was there to give some family history. History that I did not know about. She said that my grandfather died of a heart attack, it was his third by the age of 40. My mother’s brother, at the age of 40 as well, had a heart attack. I looked at my mother with awe, why didn’t I know about this.
The nurse, came back with the doctor and ordered a c-scan on my head, and my chest. Did some blood work. Hours later indicated that my blood work showed a possibility of blood clots or blockages to my heart. Than to my surprise, I have a small spot in my lung. They said to not worry about it and it would be rechecked in 3 months.
Was told that they ordered a test called ‘Stress test’ for me to take in the morning, at 8 am. I ate at 1 in the morn cause I had not ate since 12 noon on Friday. I was waiting for the evening to roll by cause my husband, mother, brother, his fiance and a co worker was suppose to eat at Logan’s. Instead, everyone at the hospital to show support.
Got admitted after all the drama in the ER. Up in a private room and quickly went to sleep, that morn around 8 am no one comes in to take me to the test exam. I called the nurse and she didn’t know what I was talking about, told her I was going to wait till they come cause I was drowsy. Come to it, I woke up at 10 am. So I was paging the nurse again, and said either they get me to my exam now or they better bring up something to eat cause my blood sugar is going down. Than the nurse said, ‘How do you know that’ Than I said, 'Would you like for me to complain to the head of the hospital.‘
Right away she came with the glucose meter and it indicated that my bs was low at 80 which at that time I start to shake. Immediately, she came and found out that the test ordered never went thru. She also came with a diabetic meal on hand.
By 2pm, the cardiologist comes in and apologises for the mix up this morning and said if I was up to doing the manual test which is the treadmill. I agreed to it cause I wanted to get this over with and go home. Was I wrong. Turned out that while walking the treadmill I showed some symthoms. He said that he was going to transfer me to the hospital that did the procedure of putting a tube in my groin area to my heart and it would locate the blockage(s) and elimanate it. Than he lets me know it won’t be till Monday, so instead he’s going to do the original ‘stress test’ with dye and some chemical to get the accurate findings and if it still shows evidence of a blockage than he will procede to transfer me to the other hospital. (heart hospital)
The doctor was saying that having high cholesterol causes this to happen, I told him that I’ve had normal cholesterol for about 8 months now. He said that how long before did I have high cholesterol. Told him I had it for about 17 years and that no doctor ever prescribe anything till about 3 years ago. Well, also with diabetes not being detected till about 3 years ago too. Had the diabetes symthoms since 95’ but no diagnois till 3 years ago. So with all those years of not being diagnose cause some damage to my arteries. Or not having the medical attention I was suppose to have.
So here I am waiting for Sunday morn to do the test. So if only I knew about all this a long time ago maybe I would have a better outcome to this than what I’m going thru right now.
Please if your doctor tells you that you have high cholesterol, make sure that you take immediate action on this with meds and tests to monitor this situation. Because of diabetes, you have to take more precautions.
I will write tomorrow night about this what the outcome is and still be positive for my love ones and friends.
Good night till tomorrow.
