Last weekend myself and Jaimie planned a meet-up for the TuDiabetes Long Beach, CA area. I am glad we planned the meet-up. I the chance to see Rebecca and meet Arturo. I see Jaimie all the time. When it comes to anything diabetes related you'll pretty much see the two of us together.

Please bare with me, I was going to blog about the meet-up over at my personal blog-- I decided to come back home (TuDiabetes) to share why diabetes meet-up's are important to me and a lot of other people in the diabetes online community.

Chatting with someone or responding to someone online is a learning experience and powerful thing. I am not knocking online communities by any means--sometimes it's great to sit with and conversate with someone who understands you. It's awesome to compare notes, learn about someone else's story and lifestyle. Meet-up's brings us closer together, bonds unlike any other--it doesn't matter what type of diabetes you have.

Have you ever met, sat with or talked to someone with diabetes other than someone over the computer? If not, you do not know what your missing.

I promise if you take the time out of your busy schedule to attend 1 meet-up, I promise you it will be well worth it. Once you attend your first meet-up, you’ll never look at diabetes the same. You never know who will inspire you and who you’ll inspire.

Diabetes is becoming a global epidemic. We have to start meet-up's, raise our voice and getting the word out. Diabetes Community Rock's online but what about the people who are touched diabetes that doesn't have internet access? I challenge YOU to start a meet-up in your area. So, what if no one shows. I promise the more you talk about it, the more people will show up. Bill Gates didn't get rich overnight. If the Susan G. Komen foundation can make a difference in the world, by spreading awareness....So can YOU and I.

Such an inspiration, Cherise! I finally met with Andrea yesterday, and it was so great to talk about life and diabetes, to know that I’m not alone, and that I can reach out to people in my area. We are excited about sending the word out and bring the diabetes community together.

awwwwwwwww just awwwwwwwwwwww…don’t know what I would do without my D-friends :slight_smile: …meet-ups are very powerful for friendship, laughing, sharing and renewing your strength to continue your D journey!

Confirmed at work, NO MORE SATURDAYS for a while. Meaning I CAN come to saturday meetups. YAY!!!

I can’t believe how much the world has changed. I mean we talked to a friend in Malaysia last night!! How incredible is that?!

So how do I start a meet-up in the Princeton area considering the only people I know with diabetes are on TuDiabetes?

I have yet to go to a “physical” meet up here in Malaysia…but I have to say… the virtual meet ups are AWESOME as well!

I went to my fisrt diabetes meetup yesterday actually. It was great. There is instant bond and trust factor you automatically get. My wife went as well as spoke with other family members. Everyone had a great time.

1happydiabetic- I am glad you attended your first meet-up. I bet your wife had a ball. Meet-up’s gives spouses a chance to see their not the only one too. Do you think you’ll attend another on?

Hannah- You are awesome! You had me cracking up Friday during our Tokbox “Meet-up”. We’ll have to do it again.

Khurt- I would suggest maybe posting flyers up in your local dinner. Maybe see about getting a Doc office to spnonor or hold a meet-up for you. IF you need more idea’s DM me on twitter with youe e-mail addy.

Sara- lol, we’ll I didn’t ask you before I took it. WE had a ball Friday. I think we should do it more often.

it was fun that day. the long beach was my first one and i had fun, i would definitely go to another meetup if its nearby
