Increased carb sensitivity on low carb diet

Were you told that you were killing yourself by eating 100 to 150 g of carbs per day because that is too high or too low?

I agree with your comment about the cultish. There’s often a fine line between being zealous and being a whack-job!

To be fair, @fit_momma_16 in your case I can see why you might not be a good fit with that group.
They focus on managing T1 in a very strict way and following Dr. Bernstein’s way. While some people’s diets there vary a bit, It just doesn’t sound like the approach that you’re taking is the same as theirs. You also focus more on body building which isn’t their focus at all, and they are very much against carb loading.

I’m happy your approach is working for you and that you found another group to support your needs.

Yes, but it just seems such a counterproductive approach to start off being hostile or rude, as opposed to just answering a person’s question or saying something diplomatic along the lines of ā€œI’m really sorry that we don’t know much about X, as this group is focused on Y.ā€

ā€œCounterproductive.ā€ How very tactful.

My point is they were extremely rude about it. I actually had multiple
people point me in their direction. Diabetes isn’t a one size fits all
thing. They have the view it’s their way or no way.

amen! We have a little expression here, ā€œYour diabetes may varyā€ or #YDMV. and we have a document here called ā€œOur Valuesā€ where it states we value diversity

I agree with you that diabetes has variation and I’m glad you found a way to manage it that works for you, however, It’s their group. They have the right to be as inclusive as they see fit. Your way of managing does’t fall in line with theirs.

I’m really sorry you felt they were being rude, I really wish it wasn’t so and I do not agree with it.

I’m glad there are other groups and forums out there as well, like this one. There’s a reason I’m a part of many groups outside of the Typeonegrit one, as I like seeing and hearing from all types of people and different ways of managing diabetes, even if I don’t always agree, there are so many people here with years of experience, I like to take it all in then pick and choose what might work best for me and my lifestyle.

By the way, even Dr B himself does’t deny that people are different and that if something works for you, then by all means, stick to it. He’s just a very analytical person who likes to see the numbers. He does say that his guidelines are just that, guidelines, and agrees that different people will find variations that work best for them. Just the other day a mom in the group mentioned how some foods from the approved Dr B’s list spike her son’s BG levels, while there are some foods from his No No list that her son can have in small amounts. Just goes to show how it’s all a matter of trial and error for all of us.

In any way, I’m grateful for all online groups and forums for people with diabetes. Not to get too emotional here, but I appreciate all of you, despite some of our differences, we have more in common after all, and we should always have each other’s backs.

Too high. Bernstein believers. And I’m exactly with others here who see lots of ways to be successful here. It’s not a one-size-fits-all disease.
