When you become sick are your blood glucose numbers also rising. How much are they rising?
I had a lingering illness for most of the month of September. My primary care doctor put me on a couple different rounds of prednisone, which spiked my blood sugars WAY up (my doctor told me it would) - consistently into the low to mid 200's. My A1c came in at 8.3 in early October, and the highest A1c prior to that in my 2.5 years of LADA was 7.0. I'm usually in the mid to low 6's. Lesson here is that I or my doctor should have been in better contact with my endocrinologist about being prescribed the prednisone.
Hi: I don't get sick very often, just a cold every once in a while. Depending on the severity of the cold, it can impact my BGs and I go high. I got the flu shot this fall, as I do each year, and I had high blood sugars and had to double my bolus insulin for about two days.
