Hi everyone… i had been doing so great, keeping tight control on my numbers. I got sick a week ago with a high fever, flu-like symptoms. my doctor gave me levaquin and robitussin and my numbers have been 194-273, and that is with such little food! i havent felt like eating much and still this morning i was high. i am hoping this does not severely raise my A1c the next time i go. i probably shouldnt worry about it but was so looking forward to a ‘better’ A1c than my last one. any thoughts on this? i would appreciate your input! thanks…juliet
Sorry you’re sick, Juliet. Being ill sure does raise blood sugar. Other than drinking lots of water, testing a lot & correcting, there isn’t anything else to do but ride it out. Frustrating! It will effect your A1c some, an additional aggravation, but nothing you can do about it. You’re right, don’t focus on that part.
Hope you’re feeling better soon!
thanks… i thought i was feeling better this morning but then ended up going back to bed - too weak!! i’ve had a fever off and on for 4 days so of course my numbers will be higher. it’s frustrating but i will make it through! thanks for the note

Sorry to hear you are sick. I had a sinus infection about two weeks ago, and sure enough my numbers were higher too. The body can only fight so many things, and I am sure yours was fighting the bugs that gave you the illness. It probably won’t “severely” raise it, but it might make a difference. Make sure that whom ever records these numbers for you, makes not of that sickness, as an explanation…better that, then assuming you were off your plan.
Did your doctor warn you that levaquin could raise your blood sugar? Did you know that Robitussin contains sugar, and that for diabetics, the sugar-free Robitussin is obviously preferred. And just to add to the plight of all diabetics, being sick raises your blood sugar as your body fights against the inflammation.
