so i just gave myself 17 units of lantus and a pretty big dribble of blood came out. the lantus all went out of the pen, but i’m not sure how much is actually active. is this the sort of thing where i need to worry much about giving myself extra insulin? i’ll be up about 4-6 more hours if it matters. don’t say “wake up in the middle of the night to check” because i’m not going to do that, but is it possible to take a couple of units in the morning if i’m running too high, or would that just compound my error?
You’ll be fine. This happened to me about 5-10% of the time. Never had any problems.
In the future just make sure that you hold the needle in after the injection for about 10 seconds. That way if there is going to be bleeding a lot of the lantus has had to chance to diffuse into the surrounding tissue.
