Insulin Pen Bubbles

How do I get bubbles out of my insulin pens??? Each time I try I just end up wasting insulin and not getting the bubble out. Do you have any tricks or tips?

If you were doing injections right into your vein, then you would be concerned about air bubbles. But insulin injections are supposed to be subcutaneous, right into the layer of body fat right below the skin. Little air bubbles do no harm and are slowly absorbed without harm. Prime the pen to start with and then ignore the little bubbles that form. Perhaps others will chime in with alternate views.

Yeah, I ignore them. I never completely drain a pen so they never even come into play for me.

Good one, Mark! I noticed too that they don’t dissipate when you ping them like in a syringe. They seem to stay behind in the pen, though, even when you use it all as I do now. And as bsc says, it’s no biggie anyway.

Usually what i do is just barely (i mean barely, like, barely even hanging on) put the needle on it, then flick it and run about 10 units through. Only for ones that are big enough for me to worry about though. The tiny ones don’t hurt anything.

I do not worry about them at all. When I inject my insulin I make sure the bubbles on are the other end of the pen. Never been a problem and the bulles help displace more insulin when the pen gets to the end.??
