I’m new to diabetes (I have t1) and have a question about insulin pens. I use Lantus and the pen information with it says to throw it out 30 days after it has been used for the first time. As of now, I am only on 7 units and after 30 days I still have over 50 units left. Does everyone throw their unused insulin out after 30 days or is it ok to continue using it if it is still clear?
Hi , an Aussie T1 (14 months) with a similar dilema, also on very low dosage (6 units of Lantus nightly). I have had a couple of active pens going at the same time and have used well over the 30 day period with no problems, making sure they were never subject to over the recommended temperature. If there is any cloudiness or crystal appearance do dispose of though.
