Vicky, we are all different so I would hesitate to tell you anything about what you can expect. I have been diabetic for 40 years and I have some complications, but I still have my sight, kidneys and legs. I would be curious to know how many of the 1,000+ diabetics on this site are over 30+ years. Maybe we can ask Manny for that data.
The man who has probably lived longer with diabetes than anyone else, ever is William Rounds. He was diagnosed in 1923, the same year insulin was first sold. He was also born that year and diagnosed when he was 11 months old. He is still alive and well at gthe age of 85 and has had diabetes for 85 years. His story appears in the Oct., 2008 issue of the Diabetes Forecast. There are several other long term diabetics whose stories are told in that issue. I was a member of the group chosen. They sent a professional photographer to my house. LOL!

Going on 47 years and doing very well with no complications…
To see all these people that are long-timers is a great inspiration to me. My son was diagnosed at 9 months and to see how well all these others are doing is fantastic. Makes me feel better 
What to expect is 80%(give or take)in our hands.
My oldest Brother had Diabetes for 48 years. My youngest Brother had Diabetes for about 46 years. I’ve had Diabetes for 47.5 years. You’ve come a long way with your case. I’m impressed by so many Long-term Diabetics. My Best Wishes to you Vicky.
