Just Need to Vent

OK, so I’m 7.5 weeks pregnant, have maintained A1cs around 6.0 for 18 months, and this past week has been hell on wheels. Two failed pods (which rarely happens to me), chronic insulin resistance (leading to other pod changes just in case) and attending a conference that made it hard to deal with those problems, let alone stay AWAKE during the long plenary sessions.

I know these highs aren’t the end of the world, and I’ll be seeing my primary early next week (who helps me manage my D splendidly) but the it took me almost 10 units of insulin today to get down a (very surprising) 250 after breakfast. New bottle of insulin, and my sugars were fine during the overnight, and I’m fine again now.

Good news, I had my first ultrasound on Friday, and I got to see the little peanut’s heartbeat. And, I actually lost a couple of pounds…probably cutting out the cocktails and fast food, on top of a healthy dose of nausea  AND, my insurance approved the CGM (Dex), so hopefully it will be easier to keep my blood sugars in line.

I know you all can relate and understand the added stress the high blood sugars cause.

Casey-I completely understand. I am 19 weeks along now and have hit MAJOR insulin resistance. I have had to increase my basals almost two-fold during certain times of day. It IS stressful and the waves of highs/lows makes me exhausted and irritable. You are doing everything you can! Remember, so much of this is out of our control.

Good luck with everything!
 Andrea

I had a pod fail a few weeks ago without alarming and saw my BG shoot from 106 to 362 in less than an hour (thank you Dex)!!! I had some insane lows with rebound highs that freaked me out so I started using my NovoPen and injecting in a different site to get my BG to drop. I find that a large bolus pools with the pod and takes forever to drop. Try to aim for the muscle in your upper arm for the quickest results ;o)
