Just received a freestyle meter from insulet ARE YOU SH&TING ME !!!!!!!!! Why put a meter in the pdm if it does not work ??????
I think it is supposed to be a backup meter in case your PDM croaks.
Nope. They put a big red note in the box with my PDM saying that the meter in the PDM was not approved for the new strips and to use the separate meter until such time as they are approved.
Some people in this group think it is just a paperwork/CYA issue, others think it is a real problem with the PDM reading differently.
I think it is a paperwork thing. They tried changing the new strips packaging so there was a code number on it (remember when it used to be yellow with no code at all?) and I venture to guess the FDA still said that this particualr strip was never intended to be used with a coding meter. I think this is their way around that, knowing you will still used the PDM meter.
Just wondering, which PDM are you using? First or second generation?
I am with u - its the Freestyle Lite and the non coded rubbish - i would guess !
Second generation pdm. I also got the red note!!!
Definitely not a paperwork thing. Test your PDM with butterfly strips and control solution. See for yourself.
Worked just fine for me every single time I have tested it.
I just tested control solution three times using the PDM and also Freestyle Lite meter using butterfly strips. The control solution range is 83-125 mg/dl
PDM: 83, 114, 123
Freestyle Lite: 103, 120, 85
Seems to be just about the same spread as using their approved product...........
The PDM has an Abbott Freestyle meter in it. That's the problem They should dump Abbott and use someone else's. Abbott is giving Insulet a bad name!
MossDog, I rarely get readings that are more than 5 points apart. Your results are very different from mine.
Interesting. We have a 2nd gen PDM, and I haven't heard a peep from Insulet about any of it. We've been using the new strips for about six months, and my daughter's A1C went down. Not sure what to make of all of it...
Wonder why? The PDM I used was from right after the generation 2 PDM launched. The Freestyle Lite meter I used was just out of the box which is where I got the control solution which did not expire until well into 2012. Maybe different altitudes? I do not know???
Are you using the lite strips with PDM?
Yep. Freestyle Lite with the butterfly wicker......I used the same 10 pack sample strips using the PDM and the Lite meter
MossDog,
This is what Abbott says on their website:
"FreeStyle Lite® Blood Glucose Test Strips are intended to be used with FreeStyle Lite® and FreeStyle Freedom Lite® meters only."
Abbott also sells butterfly strips for FreeStyle Freedom and FreeStyle Flash meters. These strips are pending FDA approval for the PDM.
Nevertheless, I also heard a rumor that the only difference between these strips is the packaging.
Don't know whether this is true or not. None of my tests were done with lite strips.
I have heard the only difference is packaging too. I highly doubt Freestyle uses more than one reagent.
They put it on their web site like that for the same reason they send a meter with the PDM- so they do not get in trouble with the FDA. But behind the back style that most industry reps use they wink at you when they say these strips are not suppose to be used with the PDM. Honestly, Omni looks REALLY bad sending out a PDM with a glucose meter in it but no strips to run it.......
The butterfly strips with code 16 are no good with my PDM. My A1C shot up by 1%. Factory calibration is the holy grail of CGM technology. I am confident that I will live long enough to see it happen. Let's cross fingers that the FDA will not take 10 years to approve it. I don't want to buy it out-of-pocket from a European distributor.
got our pdm in May and got the freestyle Freedom meter with it , no note
Our stirps are all Freestyle with a butterfly on package, the package doesnt say Freestyle Lyte
Hearing this is completely shocking to me.. I get my test strips automatically filled at CVS and they have been giving me the new test strips - yellow with the butterfly on it - for AT LEAST 6 months. I haven't heard one thing from Insulet about not being able to use these.. and CVS just automatically started giving me these - I had no idea that they were any different or would cause a complication. I JUST refilled my prescription and have A LOT of test strips - any advice on what I should do? I haven't noticed anything different about my blood glucose readings - they are normally VERY out of wack. Feelinlg very frustrated :(
