My friend just got a new batch of Insets and says that the tubing is incredibly kinked. Anyone else get a recent batch and have this problem?
Not yet…
Did your friend call Animas? He/she should.
Did, and they sent another kinky box.
Just now saw this but I’ve had a couple of boxes of Insets with 43" tubing that are very tightly wound and kind of kinked - more wrapped over itself is a better description. Not kinked like bent but twisted and wrapped across itself crooked and hard to unwind. Is that the problem? I’ve had that now in 2 boxes but both with the long tubing.
That does seem to be what she was describing. First she called it kinked, but then she explained that she wondered if it was from being wound too tight and/or from being wound too tight and sitting on their very hot porch for a few hours, baking into shape. This is for a 10 year old child, so I’m sure she’s using shorter tubing - 43" would be almost a long as she is!
I have not encountered this with the shorter ones but at least two boxes of the longer ones have had this. It’s a bit frustrating but I have just worked with it. The main problem for me is if I need to check for air in line you can’t tell very well as the line looks nicked in so many places it is hard to see any bubbles. I don’t like it but have not asked for replacements. If it keeps happening I will complain to Animas.
We have had a few that look real kinked at first glance (Only on the Inset II 90 degree sets though - what sets has everyone else had the kinks on?) but they have all delivered insulin just fine. How bad a kink are we talking about here? I would love to see a picture of one. The tubing on the 30’s is packaged separately of course and nicely rounded always for us
For me, it is just plain Insets which are a 90. I do not know what the Inset II is. I am familiar with the 30’s and the Insets (90) but have never figured out what is different about a “II”. Looked at website but could not find any difference. I don’t think you could see it in a picture. It is just wound around in an odd manner and makes it get stuck when you try to unwind it. You have to really pull it in some places to get it untangled. It’s like it did not wind on smoothly and wound over itself and then I had one box where it did not come out with much left to “Fasten” so it was pulled really tight so they could pull it through the little nick that holds the luer lock part. Hard to describe but you could not see it in a picture - only the little nicks in the line from being tangled I guess.
I think they’re just called Insets. The straight cannula with the crazy spring loaded circle for inserting it. Hate those things. We switched to OrbitMicros, which are awesome.
Canadian websites and packaging is different so I am assuming you are both form the U.S. Didn’t realize they were called by two names. The Box says “Inset II” for the 90degree straight in and Inset 30 for the other type of inset. Maybe Canadian packaging is different. http://www.animas.ca/insulin-pump-infusion-sets.aspx
The Orbits look intriguing, but most likely not avail here. I May check into it. They definitely do not appear to be the smallest set as stated on the website though. The rotation capability is definitely cool though. How is the tapes adhesion? What is the regular cost of a box of 10?
Those are the ones that got kinked and that we no longer use.
They’re definitely available in Canada. it was one of my Canadian friend who first mentioned them to me. The tape adherse like crazy - a little too crazy for us. We have to use Unisolve to get it off sometimes. They’ll send a box of 10 samples. Be sure you ask for samples of the Orbit Micros, or they’ll send you the Micro 90s, which are bigger. I don’t know how much they cost, as insurance covers most of our payment.
They always looked kinked in spots but none of the ones we have had are actually truly kinked to the point of little delivery, we have had great BG’s when using most of them even when the tubing looked kinked
no but the last 2 times I keep getting bloos coming up into the inset and into my part that goes into the canula ,whats up with that?
Nicked a vein? Hit some muscle? It seems like when I have this problem it happens for 2-3 infusion set changes in a row and then nothing for months. I usually let it ride for the full 3 days before I change although sometimes the site stops working on day 2 so I am forced to change. The "Good Diabetic" manual says to change anytime you notice blood. I have actually had a tinge of blood come up into the tubing a few times.
