Bent Inset

Hi everyone…I’ve had my animas ping for about a month now, previously had a deltec cosmo for 3 years. I am not thrilled with the inset infusion sets, mostly just the insertion .
Yesterday I changed my site at lunch time. Went back to work, a couple hours later I felt like my sugar was very high…tested and it was 445 !! I left work and went home to take a shot and change my site. When I removed the set, the plastic piece was completely bent on the end, explaining the super high sugar. Has anyone else had this problem? Just wondering if it is a problem with the sets or user error?

Thanks for any info

I had to go from the 90 degree sets to the 30 degree, because I kept hitting muscles and killing the whole darn set.
If that might possibly be your situation, you might look into that?

I have had this problem. I notice this a couple of days after I have changed the site. I think the plastic insertion needle is flimsy. Does anyone have a pump that they have really loved besides Animas? Just curious.

I’ve had the same problem, and was told that it was me inserting into scar tissue, or hitting muscle. The suggestions I got were:

  1. Use a different site.
  2. make sure the needle is sticking out beyond the canula before using the inset. I guess, if it’s not, youu have to use a different inset. I never had this problem.
  3. Switch to an inset 30. I split my next order of insets 50/50 between insets and inset 30’s. (I was also warned by my trainer that even though I could use the inset 30 in places where the 90 degree inset would not work, that continued use of the “30” in the same places would also lead to scar tissue, and they would eventually not work either). The moral…keep switching sites.

That’s EXACTLY why I use the inset 30. I have noticed that if you insert the inset by hand, without the popping the inserter (just press it in), they don’t tend to crimp the same way.

Thanks…I have to think about it. Have been diabetic for over 30 years but am still very much a wimp. I might just go back to my old cleo sets from my deltec, luckily I still have a ton of them leftover.

I think I am a wimp too.
I cannot get used to these long looking needles, even after 37 years as a diabetic.
For some reason, the pen needles were never scary to me, but the infusion set ones are.
Still, I prefer to do a free hand insert with the Comfort Shorts, because it gives me more control over the whole process.
I just have not even gotten used to it, even after almost ten years pumping.

As I read through the threads I am noticing the same issue I have been having the last week or so with a box of Inset 30s. Meghan and Joe both mentioned some issues with the set before insertion. Such as pulling the cap off and the set being wobbly or making sure the needle is sticking out beyond the canula before insertion.

I use both Insets and Inset 30s since I got my ping a year ago. I haven’t had this problem until this box of sets. Wonder if it is a faulty lot of infusion sets. My “problem box” is lot 6430092
