I have never taken vitamins but I’ve been eating a fairly restricted diet varietywise, out of necessity. What vitamins do you think your low or lower-carb diet is short on? Do you take a vitamin? What kind?
Thanks for any help.

I take a prenatal vitamin, Fish Oil, calcium and vitamin D. I don’t drink milk or consume a lot of dairy so I don’t get nearly enough calcium. I also don’t spend much time in the sun so I need a little extra vitamin D. My prenatal vitamin covers most everything else for me. The only thing I’ve considered adding but haven’t thus far is Chromium, which I was told was good for diabetics but I don’t know enough about it to “chance” just taking it without doing more research first.
I take fish (Mega Red krill), C, D, E and a multivitamin.
I notice if I dont get enough zinc and magnesium I dont sleep as well. I dont seem to get what I need on low carb. With a good multi vitamin as a supplement I sleep alot sounder.
As long as you eat a variety of foods, a low carb diet has No nutritional deficiencies. I still take vitamins and supplements, but not because of the low carb diet.
That may be true, but I’m not sure how one knows what is variety enough to encompass all of the nutritional requirements.
It really does not take all that much. You could eat just eggs and have very few deficiencies. I eat meat, seafood, dairy and a wide range of green veggies. Within that diet, I am not aware of any basic deficiencies. Does anyone know where this would be deficient?
BSC, I have eaten like that but yet I still feel better on a vitamin. Especially for us old duffs.
I can not explain it. Maybe its the placebo effect I dont know but it works. I have read and heard where men are short of zinc and magnesium because of lack of it in the overall food chain.
Of course I listen to alot of info mercials too. But agree it doesn’t take much and you can get by with the cheaper vitamins.
I disagree with the statement “all diabetics are short of B vitamins.” I have heard that Metforim can cause B deficiency so that could be why you are deficient.
One good source of B vitamins is leafy green vegetables. I don’t eat any because I have gastroparesis. I also don’t supplement any B vitamins. I recently had my B checked and I am over the top of the lab range so I am certainly not deficient!
I always take a vitamin, especially since I had children. Being diabetic hasn’t changed that.
I should say that “the vitamin” is a multi thing for women.
