Wow Marius - I think I want to move to Norway! Pumping here in Canada is a luxury if you don’t have company health insurance, or live in one of the provinces that allows a diabetic to use a pump (if they met the criteria and/or age requirement - most programs are for <18 except for the province of Ontario).
Tomorrow is my day of reckoning - having my blood work done for my endo appointment next week. I have to agree with Chris above on how you can maintain your diabetes well by following the steps he’s outlined. I basically followed those for the most part when I reached my latter 30’s with MDI (after a wild first 20 years of so as a juvenille diabetic ). Again, pump has taught me much, and I’m glad to have had the privledge to use it, and may go back to it in time.
Amanda - I hear you on the missing out on the Lantus shot when something comes up that’s not part of our normal “schedule”. Duh, done that a few times, but give yourself time, and you won’t forget. I inject every 12 hours with Levemir - and now have the time down pat - so I don’t forget.
Like Allie is saying tho’ - I’d contact your pump company and let them know of your situation - you never know until you ask (as I’ve grown older - I’ve learned to do this - and it’s had it’s rewards over the years).
The one thing I had problems with over the past long w/e here in Canada - I was Duty Officer at the yacht club I belong to (volunteer club - keeps the costs down). It was a busy day with one sailboat getting hung up on sand and tree stumps. Between the VHF radio and phone calls from OPP - I was run off my feet - and at one point - I was just about to inject with NovoRapid (NovoLog) - and then my name was being hollered. I rushed off my boat - and later on when I went back to inject (and my BG by that point was at … gasp … 18 mmol/l) - I couldn’t find my friggin’ pen needle. Now with an insulin pump, this DOES NOT HAPPEN! I kinda lost it at that moment, with this peri-menopause thing - I’m a freaking crying ding bat. Eventually found it, had friends even searching the garbage can (ugh) incase someone had thrown out the pen needle. In the end, pen needle, on my sailboat, in an area that I normally wouldn’t keep it. Duhhhh!!! Again, with the pump, this would never happen.
