Memory loss due to low blood sugars?

My husband takes gingko & swears by it. He started using it for tinnitus (ringing in the ears) & improved memory was a happy bonus.

My short-term memory is shot. Dr. Bernstein mentioned memory problems in PWD during one of his web casts & said he gives patients a memory test. Most fail. He didn't say if it was related to lows.

Could some of your memory loss be due to other meds you might be taking? I know for a fact, that when I am not on a statin my memory and recall is much quicker, more clear, my brain less foggy. And I can see the difference within days of being off of them. I think I did read a study at some point that talked about diabetics being at higher risk of dementia/alzheimers but I really don't remember the details of the study.

I do use a Dexcom 7 plus and it does help. My A1Cs are great. My point to all of this is that many of us believe lows have a huge negative impact on our memory. When I was diagnosed 30 yrs ago I was actually told by a medical proffesional that heart attacks were common in diabetics in their 30s. That scared me because my father looked great, six pack, firm chest etc... died at 48 of a heart attack. He was in his chiropractors waiting room because his doc told him the pain in his back and left arm was due to back problems....
Scared, I focused more on preventing highs. Lows were okay as long as I caught them prior to a reaction.
that's enough ranting for now...

I do take lipitor. I did yesterday but have decided after reading forums here and researching on line , not to take it anymore. I've never been great about taking it everyday. I take vitamins, fish oil, aspirin and accupril in the morning but lipitor works better if taken in the evening so remembering to take it was a chore. At this point I think the cons out-weigh the pros.

Hey, I can find places, no problem. I love my husband (non-diabetic) to death, but he could not navigate himself out of a paper box. I think the navigation thing is inherint. My dad had it big time and I watch my husband (keep my mouth SHUT of course) and wonder WHERE is he going? STOP for directions? Get real.

I have never been able to remember names (I was a banker--big drawback.)

What else CAN I forget?

Oh, no. Anything but math! Enough math being diabetic. Can I stand on my head instead?

I feel my memory has been affected by many medical and other events in my life the past few years and by just having too many things to remember also. The first events were injuries, a mild head injury/accident and hormonal changes, this is common for women, and the second bunch started with an anesthetic during a wrist surgery- I felt my memory became much worse after that. I have heard many people say their memory was affected by sedations/anesthetics.

Next was my hospitalization for dka and dvt- the stress of all of this alone has taken its toll. I felt the ICU stay was unbelievably stressful and just going into and being in dka affects your brain I'm sure- I remember telling my endo I felt like I had brain damage from everything that happened and all of the information I was having to absorb about how to take care of myself. I'm not sure what my hypos have done or if they are also affecting my memory but I do feel it is possible and I have heard other people say this also. I have trouble remembering things or thinking at all when I become hypo. Overall stress makes my memory problems a lot worse.

I used to be able to, but don't think I can now. How about lying on the bed on my back with my head hanging off? I could handle that:)

That should work fine, hope we get a picture:)

Promise a pic of my upside down red face!
