Does anyone have experience with Micro Acupuncture to help with retinopathy?
I have been type 1 29years. Earlier this year i was diagnosed with Proliferative retinopathy, soon after I had my baby. I had numeroud laser in both eyes. And then a vitrecomy in my right eye. My vision was perfect soon after the vitrectomy for about 5 months. Then all of a sudden another blood vessel started bleeding in the same right eye. My retinologist says i should waitit out and see if the blood clears.
I started looking into other treatment and thought maybe acupuncture would help. Now I have found a few specialists that seem to have great success with this acupuncture on your hands and feet for diabetics suffering wiht retinopathy. Would love to know more from anyone who knows more.
thanks!
Mmmm. I'm a T2, so do take this thought of mine with that in mind. I worry about retinopathy too, though I'm not there yet. I do have many T1 friends here at TuD who have had successful laser surgeries for retinopathy.
However, I also have been successfully treated for many difficulties---fibromyalgia, arthritis, nerve damage in one foot---and general "blues" due to chronic pain issues---at our Working Class Acupuncture ($15-35 sliding scale, part of a national network of Community Acupuncture centers). I have found it to help on 2 levels: immediate relief plus a cumulative effect that makes the treatment last longer and that I use when I have an impending surgery for instance, and have a treatment everyday for the week before.....So, if I have to deal with retinopathy, I am definitely going to consider acupuncture....Do your research. And please keep us posted!....Blessings.....Judith in Portland
I have been using acupuncture as an addition to my regular T1 Diabetes regimen and have found that it improves my mood, helps with chronic pain in my joints (carpal runner and trigger finger), and also smoothes my blood sugars. I know of no medical studies that have proved this but acupuncture twice a week combined with using my insulin pump, exercise, and diet have lead to a lowered A1C in my case. I know of many other patients who utilize it for pain management to help with the depression that results from chronic disease. I can't recommend acupuncture enough, especially if you have an experienced, professional practitioner. Good luck! I hope you give it a try.
Thanks!
There is actually a very specific acupuncture that is helpful for retinopathy, called micro acupuncture. There ate only a few people I’m the country who do it. So you need to yravel to them, and stay for a week’s worth of treatments. Probably insurance won’t cover it, but the results are really hopeful. Just trying to assess the idea. I’m surprised how positive the results seem and that retinoloigists don’t mention it.
