Go to http://www.dandtheguy.com to read his latest blog about the length of time the transmitters can last: "Yesterday I received a letter from Medtronic, informing me of a new approval after some recent changes to their CGMS products. Medtronic has completed a study titled “An Inpatient Evaluation of Six-Day Subcutaneous Glucose Sensor Performance” which proved that sensors can be used for 6 days instead of 3. Additionally, sensors where also tested in alternate sites, instead of just the abdomen. "
Hi everybody,
I was part of the MiniMed CGMS Real Time product development team. I’m now working at a similar, new product. It’s a fantastic reward hearing all these nice remarks about how long the sensor lasts. However, I have a few questions: 1. Did you have to calibrate more often after 3 days? 2. Do you think the error margin increased after 3 days? 3. Didn’t the insertion site get infected after so many days? Thank you in advance for your answers! They are important for my research.
Cheers,

Hi there. There might be a big problem coming up because your are using the same sensor for such a long time. I can ofcourse understand that the price at 35 dollars is a big issue, but pleas take care and be aware that the skin inside might can be damage when a sensor is sitting the same place for such a long time. I would advise you to ask your diabetes doctor what his oppion is (excuse me - my english in writhning is not used often, so there proberly is mistakes)
Hi there
I use my sensors 6 days as in terms of the package. There are never any infections afterward - I have used minmed CGMS for 3 years now.
The first year the sensro could only be used for 3 days so they have been improved. The errror margins have not been increased BUT very very often there is a large differnt between what the sensor says and what the calibrate shows. It was the same problem when I only used the sensor for 3 days. The way I try to get the problem out of the way is by calibrationg 4-6 times a day. It helps
