As we wrap up another Diabetes DBlog Week, let’s share a few of our favorite things from the week. This can be anything from a #DBlogWeek post you loved, a fantastic new-to-you blog you found, a picture someone included in a post that spoke to you, or comment left on your blog that made you smile. Anything you liked is worth sharing!
DBlog Week is my favorite week of the year on the DOC. The participation of Tudiabetes on Poetry day this year was an added bonus. I'll be reading DBlog posts for a while yet--hundreds were posted--so my list of examples of favorites listed below is necessarily quite limited.
I like to write but a prompt really helps to get me started--thanks DBlog Week! My favorite of my own DBlogs was Monday's entry. The topic was "Change the World",--What are your diabetes issues and causes? My blog is titled "Multiple Causes and One Issue", in which I describe some of my family's experiences with diabetes, going back in time to both of my grandmothers, my father and myself. These experiences highlight the need for diabetes education and proper treatment for PWD's. I gave copies of this blog to two of my grand-daughters. http://www.tudiabetes.org/profiles/blogs/multiple-causes-and-one-issue-dblog?xg_source=activity
One of my causes for the Monday DBlog--Education--turned out to be popular in many other entries as well. For example, Kelly Booth talks about the current lack of diabetes education, and recommends some basic books to help PWD's, nurses and doctors. http://kellywpa.com/2014/05/12/change-the-world-education/
We wrote poetry for Tuesday, which we posted on both in blog form and on Tudiabetes' No Sugar Added Poetry page. Mary wrote a poem of vivid imagery, which is a must-read. http://www.tudiabetes.org/profiles/blogs/blood-tango?xg_source=activity .
Laddie's Labrador Retriever wrote a poem about his mom's diabetes and how much he wants a cure. http://testguessandgo.com/2014/05/13/a-diabetes-poem/
Wednesday's topic was "What Brings Me Down". Hakima began her DBlog with the sentence: " What brings me down... literally... was waking up on the floor six months ago and wondering how I got there. Well, once I got myself together, I figured out how I got there." Read the rest....

In "What Brings Me Down", Rick Phillips writes with passion about his depression and his haunted years with diabetes. http://www.tudiabetes.org/profiles/blogs/what-brings-me-down-wednesday-5-14
On Wednesday, kudzuprincess writes: "For me--it gets emotional on two levels--a personal level and a mico/macro level." She explores diabetes mental health thoroughly. http://www.tudiabetes.org/profiles/blogs/mental-health-and-diabetes-diabetes-blog-week
A Wildcard is used when you want to replace the original topic, which I did on Wednesday. The Wildcard's topic was "Tell Me a Story", in which the writer personifies a diabetes tool that is used on a daily basis. Wil Dubois writes his blogs with humor; in this case, his story is about his CGM. His girl CGM is both loving and jealous. She's mad at Wil and is quite talkative about it all! http://www.diabetesmine.com/2014/05/d-blog-week-the-new-girl-spills-all-on-cgming.html
There are many "how-to's" in this year's DBlogs. Thursday's topic was "Mantras and More", dealing with a bad diabetes day. On a serious note, Meri wrote a beautiful blog about dealing with the loss of her husband, loneliness, and asking for help. http://www.ourdiabeticlife.com.
Friday was dedicated to more "how-to's"--"Diabetes Life Hacks", or tips for handling diabetes. Jen has several tips for handling diabetes and allergies, especially when "Out and About". http://blooddropsbrailledots.blogspot.ca/
On Saturday Snapshot Day, just scroll down the link page of participants and enjoy! http://www.blenza.com/linkies/links.php?owner=dblogweek&postid=01May2014c
While you're checking out the Snapshots, take a look at Rick Phillips' entry: http://www.tudiabetes.org/profiles/blogs/photo-blog-for-diabetes-blog-week-getting-ready, and Wil Dubois' entry: http://www.diabetesmine.com/2014/05/ask-dmine-photo-novella-of-advice-for-diabetes-blog-week.html
Many thanks to Karen Graffeo at Bitter-Sweet who brought us the Fifth Annual #DBlogWeek! Kudos to people who helped develop the topics as well.http://www.bittersweetdiabetes.com/?utm_source=May+Newsletter+2014&utm_campaign=TD+Newsletter&utm_medium=email
