My Summer of Discontent

Flashback to winter: Icicles hanging from the eaves, sparkling little daggers. Snow piling up in the driveway, meaning that to drive was to risk life, limb and vehicle. So… dreaming of Summer. Mid-summer, July. Couldn’t wait to get in the car and drive and drive, heading into a warm and balmy vacation.

Here we are, July. Right now. Hot, I mean hot! Extended heat wave. Wind! Nope not gentle, balmy winds. Hard driving, tree downing winds.

My double coated dogs are hot. It’s too hot to hike with them – we’re all getting out of condition!

A little problem cropped up. My thyroid was lowered as a result of my latest tests. I think I have less ambition, less stamina, but it’s rather hard to tell under the circumstances. About a week ago, I fell in the bathtub – just like an awful commercial – and offended my tailbone. It was really offended. So a little less stamina, less ambition, a lot of pillows…

And oh yeah, Diabetes (thanks, MTM)… Actually my blood sugars have been good. Why, I don’t know. I start the day with my absolutely essential mocha latte, followed by summer fruit, cheese, Nut-Thins and meat – all day long. I’m not discontented with everything!

Hi Trudy: Hope you feel better soon. It’s cooling down here in southern Ontario. Hope the cooling breezes get to you soon.

Trudi, lots of nice cool showers to cool you and the dogs down. My dogs like icecubes in the summer. I put some in their water and sometimes they fish them out and happily lick and lick. Bit like kids with an ice lolly.

Thanks, Peetie and Pastelpainter. A few cooling breezes with thunderstorms today., hopefully a little help. Ice cubes in the dog bowls is a good idea. Water is a big problem right now, because the dogs keep shedding their hair into the bowls, and then immediately want more clean water!

Thanks so much, mistressbinky. After a week, I’m feeling much better and would love to have company with my mocha latte, hot or iced. Thinking hard about the bench…

Hi Judith. Hang onto that railing, falls are no fun! I’ve done a flip over our dog fence between the kitchen and living room a couple of times, but that’s two other stories… We’re getting a taste of fall right now. The dogs like a chill in the air but the petunias don’t.
