DD’s BS have been all over the place pretty much unprovoked. She hasn’t eaten or done anything out of the ordinary. These are her #'s so far today:

Breakfast 5 units (mcgriddle & Powerade <-- she did calculate all carbs)
8:30 am - 89
9:30 am - 163

11:30 116 - 5 units for lunch
2:00 pm - 86
She is not expecting any friend right now and As far as I can tell she is not sick. now she has a headache and an upset tummy. I am going to call Dr. after my break to see what she would like for us to do - nothing - maybe its just a bad day? DO I need to call Dr? TIA
Hi, So I had a headache and a bit of a tummy upset 3 weeks ago and ended up with the stomach flu for almost 2 weeks. During that time I needed almost no insulin. During the worst of it I was not even digesting my food. I had to set my pump to the lowest basel possible and even disconnected for hours at time. Be careful I am not going to go into all the scary details but in 2 weeks it was 3 dextrose IV’s and 4 glucagon rescues. My endo only had me take insulin after I ate and after my BG was a certain number so you may want to call even though she has only had one low but considering this is going around so you can be prepared just in case that is what is coming on. I had no fever or other signs just the headache and tummy upset then boom everything was coming out fast then I could keep anything in.
Be safe it might be nothing at least I hope so.
Be loved
Thank you Laura. I think I will call just incase. WE had a stomach bug that started with her over christmas break. However she never vomited. Thank God.
Hi C,
I don’t know what is going on. I realize it is scary. Maybe just check a little more frequently until whatever shows itself. If in doubt, go ahead and call the doctor. At least you will get backup and the doc will be aware that something is going on. I hope it is just one of those unexplainable times. We are here.

I never vomited either it just went through me out the other end
I have never just stopped digesting before but I think there was another thread about it and the stomach flu. My endo gave me what may be considered unpopular advice but considering I was low for hours at a time she said just cover with half when you get to 200. It might have saved my life because I was so worn out from all the ER stays and emergency injections that I really needed rest to start to heal and I could not get it. You know your in trouble when 2 bananas, an ensure and grape nuts don’t bring you out of the 45 range But her advice was right.
I have to admit after the first week of emergencies it was a bit fun the second week eating whatever I wanted. Now I am digesting again so no more of any of those foods together again.
All you can do is wait it out.
Thanks for taking care of her
be loved you are
Thanks Saundra. I hope it is. I am on the phone w/the Dr.'s office to see if there is something we should do. And now she only has 1 strip left Thank gosh her Step dad is diabetic and has a TON
hello my name is bob, im 22 and have been diabetic for 12 years, nothing like this really happened to me untill bout 3 years ago when i started college and after a few times of upset stomach and headache sometimes sittin on the jon for a lil while, i have noticed it happens when my sugars either bounce around or if i go from high to low or visa versa but once i get them settled the headaches go away and then the rest follow usually bout an hr or 2 later.
Good MOrning Everyone! I called the Dr. yesterday and she advised me to take DD home and let her rest. She had a fever of 99 not bad endo said. Call back Sun with her numbers. Yesterday was horrible. She bounced all over the place even in the evening. Then I found out she only had 1 strip left!!! OMG I went to go and buy some $50.00!!! But then you guys already knew that. Come to find out her script was waiting at the post office!! Had I known I would have went to the PO instead of Kmart! LOL Oh well DH will go and get them this morning and take them to her. She used his meter last night and this morning. Her BS was 100 this morning. Great. Her numbers have been remarkable and I am proud of her for doing it right. I know she didn’t feel good she went to bed at 8:30 (What teen does that?!?!). Thank you all so much for your support and help. I have no idea what I am doing and am very afraid of the very low lows and I thank god and praise him every day that we have yet to experience this. Thank you all again.
Thanks C for keeping us posted. I know nothing scares you like your kids. Your daughter is such a sweetie and i know she works hard to be so good. I hope all the bouncing is over with for now. I am sure other things will come up in the future but each little hurdle seems like a giant step when they happen. Hang in there and good job !!! Hugs to you
Hi, those are great numbers, even though I understand why it makes you crazy! Numbers are TOO good! I would guess your daughter is still honeymooning and her pancreas is kicking in some natural insulin. You will have to be very careful at times like these and check. The first year or two is always crazy, just keep an eye on her and frequent blood sugar checks.
I agree with Jan on this one. I can understand why you are worried, but jumping to 163 is not too bad. She is likely honeymooning still. It means that later, she may jump even higher.
When I was first diagnosed, I almost never went above 200, even after a high carb meal. Now, if I miss count my carbs, I can go up above 250 easily. I try to eat and bolus so that I never go above 200, but that is not as easy as it was during my first year. Just good to prepare yourself that the jumps might get higher later.
You guys are adjusting very well and Maddy will continue to do great
