I like reading that the research and implementation of an artificial pancreas is being pursued simultaneously and independently with various hardware platforms and different researchers across the globe. I believe this enhances the chances that each group will find some unique “pearl of wisdom” unnoticed by the others. Ultimately this could allow subsequent refinements to incorporate into a better system for us.
I don’t think the JewelPump is being used in the wild so I think this development has more hurdles to jump before it’s released. It’s interesting that this patch pump can be disconnected from its mount and then reconnected later. This would be a nice feature for hot tubs and possibly other situations.
