Hello everyone =) My name is Nikki and I've been type 2 for 7 years. I was uncontrolled due to no insurance for most of that time. I was pregnant 3 times in that time (2 of my babies passed away due to prematurity/heart defects) and was on insulin for my pregnancies. I'm now going to a free clinic here and was put on insulin after about 3 months of throwing up/diarrhea which they thought was from high blood sugar. I take 30 units lantus at night, and humalog with meals usually about 25 units with each meal. I'm struggling keeping my sugars under about 200, have been on the insulin about a month. It gets really depressing!
Hi Nikki. It never ceases to amaze me how someone can be allowed to suffer because of a lack of insurance. I'm glad you have found some help. You might want to join this group. Diabetics without Medical Insurance
Most T2's suffer from insulin resistance and usually require larger amounts. Initially I was taking as many as 120 units of Levemir (60units twice a day) and about as much Novolog. Those two insulin's are comparable to the ones you are on. I have been able to reduce the resistance and lower my total daily dose (TDD) with diet and exercise. Darn I said those two words that all T2's are tired of hearing, but they really do work. Before I started with my pump my TDD was less than 100 units and since I started pumping it is even less.
I lost 90lbs in the last year and had hoped it would help but it didn't =(
Wow that's impressive, Sometimes it is what it is, in your case a case of insulin resistance. Maybe not because of weight issues because it seems that you still have it even after losing 90 pounds (Wow).
I have another question for you. Have you been tested for Type 1 antibodies. You would not be the first person mis-diagnosed as Type 2 that really is an LADA Type 1. Many doctors automatically type an adult as Type 2 but adults do get Type 1.
