New to Animas

Hi friends. I’m expecting my new Animas pump to arrive in the mail any day now. While I’m new to Animas, I’m not new to pumps. I wore a Minimed pump years ago.

Since I’m terribly busy, I don’t want to attend the beginner class to learn about my pump. Plus, I’m a journalist so research is my middle name. I’ve already found so much useful information online about questions I had getting started on Animas. Also, several friends wear an Animas, and I’ve been able to play around on theirs.

So I’m probably going to skip the class if possible. I have my basal rates from my doctor, so I think I should be good to go. Any advice for this return pumper?

I did the same 3 weeks ago. Just a heads up… Animas will send a letter to you prescribing doc about you declining the class. I did a ton of research online prior to ordering mine as well. I’ve been very happy with the decision. Enjoy your new pump!

I actually haven’t heard anything about the class other than general discussion. A nearby rep did call to check in and make sure I knew there was a nurse in my endo’s office that was trained with Animas. No one has contacted me, so I figure I’m in the clear there. If they do, I’ll probably go. rolling my eyes  Thanks!

Personally, I would not turn down the class. I have found that I always learn one or two tips that are really useful when I go to a group meeting of any kind. Or just some info that is not in the books. However, I doubt that it will be a problem for you not to go to class, so whatever works for you is the answer.

If you go to the site and look under community and your state: They have some nice webinars you can take.
You receive handouts and have a nice hour or so session with a trainer or dietician.
I found these to be more helpful than anything…especially as refresher courses.
