The immune suppressant drugs wouldn’t be necessary after beta cells transplant with such an inverse vaccine, if one were to ever come to market. This is a brand new idea and looking way off yet. It would stop our bodies from attacking the new beta cells, essentially turning off the auto-immune side of the equation. The inverse vaccine basically instructs the immune system to protect these cells, rather than destroy. It would be a two-step process. The vaccine first, followed by beta cell therapy.
