hi
this might not be the right forum for this - but thought i’d post here to start.
i am a 50 year old woman who was diagnosed type 2 about 5 years ago. first i was prescribed pills and then about 2 years ago switched to insulin.
all of this time i had been eating either a SAD diet or the ADA diet - and lately only whole grains, veggies and fruits and some cooked meat - and LOTS of green bananas!!! LOL
so - i am currently on 12 units of 70/30 in the AM and 6 units of 70/30 in the PM.
today i started eating low carb.
it is only 5:30 PM and my blood sugar was 118 a little while ago - much better than usual already.
this morning i took my insulin like usual and ate a little bit of carbs just in case - tonight i plan on not taking the insulin and eating low carb and see what happens.
does anyone know that if you follow low carb and stop taking insulin - if you will still get the lows?
this is what worries me more than anything - i have really just been eating to support my insulin! seriously, i have been eating cereal bars, brown rice, whole grain pasta, etc. - just so i won’t go low at night or in the afternoon.
whenever my BG gets below about 120 - i panick - because usually this means that in about 30 minutes it will be 40… so hopefully stopping insulin will help this.
my doctor is NO help. actually i quit going to the clinic when i had told them before that if i ate low carb - or no carb LOL that i didn’t need to take insulin. soooo they scared me into taking it saying that if i didn’t eat carbs that my brain couldn’t function… and my bf is a carb addict so he doesn’t help with this…
anyway - i have some cereal bars in case… but tonight i am going to skip my nightly insulin and eat bacon and eggs and tomorrow morning some flax and peanut butter - and then go to the store and stock up on green, apples, etc.
thanks for reading this!!!
and also for any tips
