Am I missing something? Is there no alarm when you run out of insulin? I know it beeps when you get down so low but then it just says low resevoir? Low resevoir can equal NO INSULIN?!!
I am not sure - but DHs alarmed yesterday at work to tell him he was down to 20 units. We changed before he was out of insulin - still right at his 3 day mark and we added about 10 more units this time to his pod. I am not sure he wants to run out of insulin to test that theory - is that what happened to you? I would call insulet and see what their response is.
According to the manual (page 119) there is an “Empty reservoir” alarm. It is under the Hazard Alarms and the pod should have beeped
Don’t worry it will definetly let you know when you are completely out of insulin. Now remember this… if you are in the middle of a bolus, it will not tell you how much of it you recieved. Personally I think there should be a way for the PDM to tell you the bolus exceeds the amount of insulin in the pod, but it doesn’t (maybe the next PDM will)
After you get a new pod on you should be able to find how much of the bolus you recieved. I can’t remember if I found it on the Status screen for “Last Bolus” or in the Insulin Delivery part of My Records. But you’ll have to remember the amount of bolus you should have received and didn’t.
Does anyone know at what point does the PDM begin to say “Low Resevoir”?
Below 10units?
I don’t see that in the manual.
Mine lets me know @ 20 units. Of course, it seldom gets to that point.
Saw the endo last week- my A1c is down below 7!
You can set the Low Reservoir alarm level under settings. Mine’s at 10 units. Obviously others are higher. Ten units is as low as you can go.
Thank you all!
I guess maybe I always get mine changed before it’s totally OUT of insulin. The other day I let it go and it finally did say that it was out.
I agree about when you are giving yourself a bolus and it runs out-mine read that I got it all but I know that I didn’t. That’s a definate flaw in my opinion.
All n all I still love my Pod.
Leigh-
Great Job with your A1C:)
OK, here goes. Go to “Settings”. Choose “System Setup”, then “Alerts/reminders”. You’ll see a list that includes “Low reservoir”. Select that, and choose what you want it set on.
Didn’t the person who trained you show that to you? I know it’s a little overwhelming at first, but relax and play with it a little! You can look around in the menus without commiting to anything ( just hit “Back”) and you may discover all kinds of neat things.
I got mine in October or November- and for a while it was enough that I could manage to work the thing at all! But now, I’m getting a little more curious about the more advanced functions- so I’ve been prowling .
I have it set to alarm me at 10 units but wasn’t sure if it would alarm when it was completely OUT of insulin. I’ve since found out that it does.
Thanks!
Happened to me today. It alarmed at 10 units. When I went to bolus for lunch, it said I only had 5, but I bolused 7, and it worked. An hour later, I got another alarm that the pod was empty and shutting down.
Ah, ok. Good to know!
