Yep. My dad's work just changed insurance and this plan will not cover humalog. I didn't realize this until I went to refill my prescription. The pharmacist was nice and (slightly illegally) switched my prescription from humalog to novolog right on the spot. (All while going off on a rant about how drug manufacturers are sleeping with insurance companies lol)
From what he told me and from what I've read on here, the 2 are virtually idenitcal. But after 10+ years of the stuff, it feels so different just to change it out.
I also had to switch this year, due to insurance. My doctor and literature sent by insurance company said they would be the same.
But for me, the novolog kicked in quicker than humalog, and I use about 10% less. I use MM pump, so I just adjusted my basal rate and carb ratio, and can eat within 15 min of bolus compared to 20-30 min. I wish I had switched earlier !
This has been discussed in other threads, and some said they saw no difference, and others noticed similar changes like I did.
My insurance did the same thing at the beginning of June.
I haven't really had much trouble switching over, but that's partially because I picked up my Humalog Rx a few weeks early, before I was "required" to get an Rx for Novolog, so I've been using up my Humalog supply. Sadly, it's almost gone, and I'll be on Novolog full time starting next week.
I’ve used both and never noticed a difference. I know many people prefer novolog, as they say it works faster. I never noticed that. If you do use it and have issues, you can get your endo to write a letter of exception explaining that you need humalog for medical reasons.
Well.. day 1 was interesting. I woke up late so I skipped breakfast. Lunch comes by and I'm at 175 (I get DP if I don't eat) I ate a chicken sandwich which was about 30 carbs. I decided to use my old ratio I injected 1:10 with a 1 unit correction. So that is 4 units total. I would usually do I 2 unit correction there, but I was being cautious. 3 hours go by and I check again, and I'm at 170. At this point I think "hmm... maybe it isn't as potent in my system as humalog?" So I go ahead and take a 2 unit correction.
1 hour goes by and BAM I get a 53 at work, which took 35 uncovered carbs to get back up.
At dinner I was at 153 and ate 50 carbs. I used my old ratio and corrections again, so I took 6 units and I'm waiting to see how it goes.
