Occlusions

I've only been using the OmniPod since Sept. 27th and since then I have had 5 occlusions. I believe that they are caused from laying on the pod while I sleep and it causes pressure on the canula thereby shutting off delivery. Anybody else having this problem?

Sorry to hear about your occlusions, Jim T. I have not yet had any issues with occlusions overnight. And I often lay right into that pod.

Sorry you are having this problem. I’ve been on the pod for over 4 years. Recently started the new ones…No problems at all. Never from sleeping on them.

We have had MANY MANY occlusion errors during bolus (.05 remaining) with no solution found, but have not had the problem you are referring to.

In my 1 1/2 years, I believe I've had one occlusion from sleeping with the pod under me. Didn't surprise me as that pod was giving all kinds of problems already. You may have other issues that are contributing to this too. Check with your diabetes educator/doctor about these, or at least call Insulet. They may provide some info that might help. I know it took me a long time to get used to sleeping with the pod. I couldn't even begin to imagine trying to sleep with a tubed pump.

We’ve found some sites (tummy and thighs) don’t work for us. They fail both during the day and at night. Arms almost always work. It took some trial and error, and different sites seem to work for different people.

I use my arms and often sleep right on the pod without any problems.

Hi Jim. I've had a few occlusions like this but they are very few and far between. I would suggest using the "pinch up" method when you change pods (which you may already be doing). After you put the pod on but before you activate it, pinch up on the skin around the pod, sort of as you would if you were giving yourself an injection. Then tell the pod to activate. For me anyway that has helped cut down on occlusions in general, not just when sleeping.

I’ve had this error on multiple pods and Insulet replaced them all including the unused ones with the same lot code. The lot codes started with 404.
