Omni Pod meter

Has anyone used the Omni Pod? I was just wondering how big the pod was that is stuck to you. The thought of no tubing is kind of nice.

i have been wondering this myself.
i always go through the “where will i put my pump when i wear a dress” dilemma.
But is the pod big? will it be seen through tight shirts? can i pull my jeans over it?
vain, yes, but i think any woman will know my pain on this one!

I just found this review and I think that I wouldn’t be happy with it.

I started the omnipod in december. While the no tubing is nice what I love most about it is the automatic insertion. It feels so much better than the other pump I was on, and it is also a LOT easier. Basically slap it on and press a button. There is more to that process but it’s that simple. No one has noticed it unless I show it to them. And like other pumps I’ve had a few problems but nothing serious. Hope that helps some.

At first that pod may seem huges but for all that little thing can do you would think it should be alot bigger. i love my pod

check out myomnipod.com you can oder a sample pod they will send you and you can try it out somewhere and see how you like it...

Haha my pod is in the same spot as your photo on me right now.

I was on the Minimed pump for a year, then heard about the Omni pod. I am now starting my second year. Not having the tubing is great. Once you fill the pod, it primes itself, then inserts itself. That was a problem I had with the minimed. If you were out and needed to change, it was sort of a big deal for me. With the simple omnipod, I can shower, swim and even change my pod anywhere! You will love it!

Is there a noticeable bump under your shirt? Do you find yourself running into things with it? I ordered the trail yesterday, thanks for the info

I think there will be bumps with tight clothing. When it is on my back I feel like there is more of a bump showing, but none of my friends have noticed it. I’m in school towards becoming a Physical Therapist so when we would practice on each other I would let my friends know where it’s at to avoid yanking it off or something. I feel it is the least noticable on my arms. There has definitly been a bump under my jeans on my thighs but again no one has noticed it with out me telling them. If you want to play around with it a bit more you might be able to find a rep in your area that would be happy to show it to you too. Hope that helps some.

I used the OmniPod for several months, and I completely loved it. The ability to be tube-free outweighed any disadvantages. Plus, the insertion process is soooo easy! I had a few problems with the pod erroring, but the Insulet Corporation replaces pods for free when this happens. There is a slight bump with clothing, but not a huge one. I wore mine on my lower abdomen, and I found that most people don’t even notice it, and if they do, a simple explanation usually suffices- and let me tell you, it’s less noticable than having a tube hanging out.

A couple of times, the pump would get hit from above, and it would tear off. That kind of hurts and is a pretty big pain in the butt, but it’s pretty rare- once was because I got hit with a pillow-polo stick in gym class from above, and it pushed down on the site, and the other was because I tripped and caught it with my hand.

The biggest advantage in this pump for me was the no-wires. I am a dancer and very active otherwise, and having to disconnect and reconnect is super-annoying. Plus, the lack of tubing is one less thing to worry about catching. Being hooked up to a tube, to me, is a constant reminder of my diabetes. With the OmniPod, I feel more like a regular teenage girl. It makes dresses easy, too!

Spooky-

I have been poddinh since May 2008! I love it failures and all! If you ha e any questions keep asking and you’ll get a answer.

When I wear a dress, I put the pod on my leg (i did this when i wore a formal and big skirted gown last weekend). I’ll occassionally run into the wall with the pod, but it’s not that bad. i’d rather bump that on something, than get some tubing caught on a door handle! eek!

but… i’ve never had ANYONE notice the pod, unless it was on my arm and i was wearing short sleeves. i can get my skinny jeans over it, too… which is nice!

Spooky, I’ve been wondering why people on shots for so long wouldn’t want a pump. They’re awesome!

Hey that’s where mine is right now! My fake trial one, anyway…

Chris -
I started podding in june ‘08. I had used a traditional pump for about 17 1/2 yrs before then. I always had issues, it seems, with where to hang my pump with the traditional one. I LOVE my pod for this reason - I can FINALLY shop for/buy clothes without worrying where to place my pump!!! It is the size of a hard-boiled egg cut in half vertically. I thought it looked huge when I saw the trial pod, but no-one really notices it on me, and I am a fairly thin person(5’6’, 110 lbs). Like others have said, they really only comment if it is on my arm, out from under the sleeve.
The next best thing is the automatic insertion - this has so helped decrease my daily basal and bolus settings - by approx 40% as compared to the pumps I inserted, either with or without tools. If you have any other questions, just email me - I’m happy to talk anytime!

it’s GREAT! you need to look for the OmniPod group and look there for all the podders that are on here. I’ve loved it. I have been on two other pumps before and I have never had as great of control as I have since being on it. It all boils down to your personal experience with it. You get a 45 day trial period so it’s kind of a risk free trial. Call them and ask for a demo pod. It does take a few weeks to get it sometimes, but as for me, it did take a couple of weeks to get used to the size, but now, I don’t even notice it.

Thanks for all of the comments on the pod. I am tired of tubing and all and am still waiting for the trial pod thingy to show up. I just wonder if it’s going to get in the way and get knocked off.

I just started the Pod 3 weeks ago and totally stoked about it…I hardly notice that it’s attached to me; I couldn’t do tubing because I know that I would always be getting it hung up on thingies.
The pod isn’t all that big in size and it’s light weight…
