Available in the App Store. Several improvements over the dedicated controller, but of course the main one is not having to carry a separate device!
This is awesome. It’s a good thing but does it have to re-learn and start over?
The Omnipod 5 App for iPhone is currently compatible with the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System and is expected to be compatible with the Dexcom G7 CGM in the U.S. in 2025.
Yes.

Transitioning to the Omnipod 5 App for iPhone
Your checklist:
1. Download the Omnipod 5 App from the App store
You do not need a new prescription to download the App.
2. Sign in to the App with your Omnipod ID
You’ll need your Omnipod ID and password to log in to the Omnipod 5 App for iPhone. If you’re having trouble, visit Omnipod® 5 FAQs: Omnipod ID and Password.
2. Transfer your settings
Switching to a new Omnipod 5 device will require you to go through First Time Setup again. Insulin delivery history from previous Pods will be lost when you switch to your new device and adaptivity will start over. Use this guide and video to help transfer your settings:
Important: Confirm your settings with your healthcare provider.
4. Start a new Pod
To start using Omnipod 5 with your iPhone, you’ll need to deactivate and remove your current Pod that is connected to your Controller or Android compatible smartphone. Use your compatible iPhone and Omnipod 5 App to activate a new Pod.
Your Pod should connect to your Dexcom G6 [or G7] as it does after routine Pod changes. A sensor change is not required.
iPhone compatibility is all phones running iOS 17 or 18 which is roughly all phones first released in the last 6 years.
Very easy to set up and start using. Basically, just transfer settings from your current Android-based controller, pair with your Dexcom transmitter (takes a few minutes) and start a new pod. The iOS app is cleaner-looking and easier to navigate. One super-annoying thing about the original PDM was that when you drilled down into settings to check a setting or make a change, it then took you out of settings and you basically had to start over to get back to that screen (or any other settings screen). Now, you don’t have to go through that.
EDIT: After re-reading your question, I do believe there is a re-learning process when you switch over.
Yep. Apparently there is.
I’ve been on about 24 hours, and it’s doing fine. One more advantage: it will unlock with face id, so no entering a password every time.
In every single crime, espionage, drug gang, detective, or kidnapping movie I have seen the past 5 years, they always use the face ID thing to unlock a captured and unwilling person’s phone. And then they can access their phone and do whatever they want. It happens every time!
So just be aware, if you get captured by a rival gang, they will unlock your phone by pointing it at your face, and then they will give you a bolus.
I’ll remember that next time I’m in a movie!
I dont use that. I still put my nice passcode into my nice iPhone.
I love it.
