Parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes

I agree it's lonely and difficult. I didn't really have any solid connections with anyone until I started to meet people online. It looks like you have the hang of the site. Welcome to Tu!

Welcome Tracy. My daughter just turned 15. We live in a rural area. If not for online groups such as TuD I don’t know how I would’ve made it. Be sure to search under groups too. There’s a group just for parents.

Yes it is a difficult thing. This summer my 9 year old went to D camp for the first time and loved it. I feel it was the best thing we ever did for her. She made friends with alot of girls and keeps in contact with them. She liked it so much we have her signed up already for 2014. One of the girls even started a D sisters club where they will email, do crafts, and talk. Maybe you could suggest camp or have her go online to meet other people.

Welcome from sunny HOT Shuswap Tracy , just down the road from you :) ...Following up on Ginger's suggestions : are you on FB ??? there is a group called " Advocating for T1 kids in BC " ...I am a member and NOT a parent :) My next suggestion is to get your sweetie to CDA's Kids Camp , Kakhamala, on the Sunshine Coast camps@diabetes.ca ...one of my reasons why I fundraise for CDA through Team Diabetes ...and JDRF hold their walks supported by Telus ...there is lots of activity in BC for PWD if you like to join !

Have you been to the childrenwithdiabetes.com site & forums? It's a great place for info/support, & I know there are members there from your area. Type1Parents.org is another good site.
