Partial vacation?

I’m really excited. I’m going on a second cruise with my (chosen) sister in December. We’ve decided to make it an annual event.

We were talking this evening about how relaxing it was last year, how we had no responsibilities except to pamper ourselves, eat and sleep a lot. If only I could have even a small vacation from D management! I wish I could take someone along who could/would do all the counting, calculating, tweaking, equipment managment, etc., etc. What a vacation that would be!

What fun & a great time to get away! Where are you going?

I went on my first cruise early this summer. Was the most relaxing vacation I’ve had. Certainly would be nice to have a assistant along to handle the D details & a service cruises should provide:)

San Juan, St. Maartes, St. Thomas & St. Kitts. My first was last year, and I thought I’d dislike it - I LOVED it. This time we’re leaving from Ft. Lauderdale. Last time we left from Baltimore (convenient for me) and lost 2 days at each end to freezing weather and high seas. We took advantage of it by sleeping

We’re leaving Dec. 18 and coming back the 26th, missing the Xmas madness yet again, but being home for the Hanukah family-ness.

Nice! Are you leaving from a different port to avoid winter weather?

Mine was a family vacation & my mother had her heart set on a cruise. I thought I wasn’t going to like it either with all the dorky activities. So, we avoided the dorky activities for the days at sea between ports. Sailing the Mediterranean & Adriatic was heavenly. I would have been claustrophobic without a balcony. Worth every additional cent to see & hear the ocean first thing in the morning & last thing before bed.

Yes, Ft. Lauderdale, so a real 8 nights of warmth in December. I don’t think I’d ever do it without the balcony, I loved sitting out there with my coffee, or reading at night, or just watching the sea. This time we’re doing a new class that gives us flowers, a wall shower, fresh tea, unlimited access to the steam room and sauna (should be great for my old bones and muscles!) and a smaller dining room.

I’m excited already! Just have to check that it’s a metal detector they use for re-boarding. I plan to leave extra insulin in the doc’s fridge. Already ordered my vacation loaner pump from Animas.

I’m excited for you! Great upgrades.

Can’t imagine not having a balcony. I could have stayed there all day & night & been happy.

Ours was Norwegian & it was lovely. Staff was incredible. My husband’s briefcase ripped. I requested duct tape to patch it enough to get home. They repaired it better than new & had it back in our room in two hours.

The cruise sounds like an idyllic get-away!

With regards to the diabetes vacation, I recall reading about diabetics that participated in the JDRF artificial pancreas project in-hospital study. More than one person wrote that handing over the burden of diabetes management to someone else (albeit a system with a pump, cgm, and a computer) was an unexpected and considerable pleasure. I can only imagine!

I suspect that the real level of energy that we all put into blood glucose management will not be fully appreciated until we’re relieved of the burden. Let’s hope that day comes soon.

Bon voyage!

Boy does that sound good! My ‘sister’ is a physician, albeit a psychiatrist, so I can try sets in places I normally can’t reach. Should be interesting
