I just put on my first of the new smaller pods and loving the size! I agree with what everyone has already stated that they love about the new pods. My question is this. What is the point of the PDM ID? It is on the screen everytime I turn on the PDM. But I don’t get it’s use. The only thing I could think of would be for purposes if its lost or you’re with a bunch of other people that have an omnipod and you all throw your pdms in a pile???

It’s a safety feature, most useful in houses with multiple insulin users. With the old PDMs, the child who was awake & having a hearty breakfast could pick up the wrong PDM & give a sleeping sibling a bolus, not themself.
I thought the same until reading about a father and daughter both with TD1 who REALLY appreciated the add. Could you imagine picking up the wrong one, testing your BS at mealtime and bolusing using the wrong PDM and having your child's BS go low an hour or so later? Or it going undetected until it's too low to treat with out medical attention? For those with multiple users I'm sure it's a relief. For us single use households it's a pain. Wish there was a way to disable it!
I've been podding over for years but am still on my 1st box of the new ones. I've never had this issue. How are your levels? If all is stable I'd say continue using it. If not change immediately!
I think this may have been an important feature to add given the increased range between the PDM and the Pod. You no longer need to be holding the PDM or in that kind of proximity to communicate with the Pod. It's more likely that someone could therefore bolus (or the like) another user, if they are in the same room or close range.
I actually find I have less range w/ the new one. With the old one, I could be holding it, pointing forward (away from body), and it would talk to the pod on my back, or back of my arm. Now w/ the new one if I don't have it pointed in the direction of the pod (or toward my body, making it hard to read the screen upside down), or nearly touching it, it "loses communication" almost every time. It's very frustrating b/c I'm always waving the thing around like a crazy person who's lost reception with their cell phone ;)
That's interesting (and unfortunate). I definitely find range is greater with the new system. I do not have to move to Caleb - in the car, across the table, etc. if I am holding it, like I used to. But, I must always be pointing in his direction.
If the range is greater for situations like that, I'm glad! Perhaps it is just my particular PDM. Hopefully that is the case :)
Like said earlier it's a safety feature. Great in many cases, and very useful. However, I do wish they'd allowed this feature to be turned on and off. I don't feel I need it in my situation.
I'm sure it's primarily for safety when groups of Omnipod users gather together, however it is also useful for recovery of a lost PDM. This is presumably why the symbols in the ID include those commonly used in an email address (my PDM ID is set to my email) and numbers; there are only 17 character spaces in the ID, but a telephone number can be used if an email won't fit. (Unfortunately Insulet forgot to include '+', so the telephone number option is less useful when travelling.)
Someone here posted that it was very useful, and perhaps created for, kids at diabetic camps. The only time I mind it is when I am testing.....I have to remember that extra step or waste a test strip.
